Harry Kane says Tottenham have gotten rid of 'bad eggs'

Harry Kane believes Tottenham's improvement this season is because the club is rid of its "bad eggs."

Mauricio Pochettino remodelled his squad into a leaner, fitter and younger group as Vlad Chiriches, Kyle Naughton, Etienne Capoue, Aaron Lennon, Paulinho, Younes Kaboul, Benjamin Stambouli, Lewis Holtby, Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Roberto Soldado all left Tottenham last season.

Pochettino's ruthlessness has paid off, with Spurs currently second in the Premier League table after 25 matches, five points shy of leaders Leicester City, and boasting the best defensive record and goal difference in the division.

The Spurs coach has insisted he has faith in every member of his squad, which is reflected in team selections, but by contrast, Lennon, Adebayor, Kaboul and Capoue barely played after last season after November.

Kane has no doubt that the clearout has aided Spurs' surprise push for the Premier League titles.

"Even the players who don't play are still working hard in training and doing all the right things to try to get into the team, which is important," the striker said in the London Evening Standard.

"If you have one or two bad eggs, it can bring others down others, and we don't have that. Everyone is fighting for each other and we are in a lot of competitions, so people know they will play games to try to impress the manager. We've got to try to keep that belief high.

"It has been another year with the manager, building his philosophy. We had a good preseason and we have a good bunch of lads.

"There are some pretty good players in this squad and everyone is together, which is important."

Kane did not name any teammate past or present but stressed that a poor attitude or work-ethic would not be tolerated by Pochettino or the squad.

"There is nobody who doesn't want to train or who tries to take it easy, because none of the players would let him do that," the 22-year-old added.

"Everyone speaks up and tells each other what is needed to be done to reach the top, which is why we've got a great team. Everyone is chipping in and that is all we can ask for."
