DeAndre Yedlin says making Premier League debut was 'unbelievable'

DeAndre Yedlin said it was "unbelievable" to make his Premier League debut with Tottenham on Saturday, and the U.S. international hopes it is only the first of many appearances.

The 21-year-old was named to the first-team squad for the first time since joining Spurs in January and came on to replace Vlad Chiriches in the 79th minute.

By that time however, Tottenham were already trailing Aston Villa 1-0, and they could not find an equaliser. Yedlin said the defeat tarnished his debut.

"Obviously, it's unbelievable to make my debut here," Yedlin told SpursTV after the game. "It's something I've looked forward to for a while now. But the circumstances weren't the best. It's disappointing, lost the three points. We're going to have to come back and get those points back.

"That's the only thing going through my head right now, is the loss. The debut's great but the loss is kind of overshadowing that right now. It's disappointing but we can't hang our heads."

In the middle of his second full season with the Seattle Sounders, Yedlin signed a contract with Tottenham last summer following a bright World Cup with the U.S.

He then joined Spurs after the MLS season ended but has been limited to under-21 matches until Saturday.

With Tottenham short-handed in defence after Kyle Walker suffered a foot injury, Yedlin was called into action, and he said he hopes to remain in the first team over the final games of the season.

"That's the plan," he said. "Anyway that I can help the team, I'm willing to do that. So hopefully, yeah, I'll get some first-team games."

Yedlin also praised the Tottenham fans for giving him a loud ovation as he came on the pitch.

"It was great to run out to. I never thought I'd get that kind of support coming over here, so it was really great to see and hear," he said.
