Tottenham coach Mauricio Pochettino: Harry Kane hat trick was fantastic

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino hailed Harry Kane's "fantastic" performance as the striker scored his maiden Premier League hat trick to lead his side to a dramatic 4-3 victory over Leicester on Saturday.

Kane, 21, was handed his first call-up to the England squad on Thursday following his fine form for Spurs this season, and capped a fine week with a vital treble to keep Spurs in contention for Champions League qualification.

The forward puts Spurs 2-0 ahead at White Hart Lane before Leicester equalised, though his second-half penalty sent the north London club 3-2 up.

An own goal from Jeffrey Schlupp and a late David Nugent strike set up a tense finish, but Pochettino reserved special praise for Tottenham's talisman.

"I think it was a fantastic, fantastic game, a fantastic performance," he said. "I am very pleased for him, for his first hat trick in the Premier League.

"I think Harry is [only a] part of Tottenham, but I am happy for him. We worked hard today in a difficult game, but it's true Harry is a very important player for us."

It was a positive result, if not performance, from Spurs, who had to do without Hugo Lloris from the first minute onwards after the goalkeeper collided with teammate Kyle Walker.

The France goalkeeper left the field on a stretcher after several minutes of treatment on a gashed knee which could keep him out of their upcoming international fixtures.

"He's in hospital with the doctor and we wait for news,'' Pochettino added. "He got a big cut on the tendon of his knee. We hope it's nothing big."
