Tottenham lining up Allegri - report

Reports from Italy indicate that Tottenham are lining up former Milan coach Massimo Allegri to take over for Tim Sherwood at the end of the season.

Former AC Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri could be set to replace Tim Sherwood as the new head coach of Tottenham Hotspur, according to Corriere dello Sport.

Out of work since being sacked by Milan in January, Allegri is reported to have been spending the past few weeks acclimatising to life in London and brushing up on his language skills, ahead of a permanent move to the English capital in July.

The Italian will apparently take his former assistant from his time at the Rossoneri, Mauro Tassotti, with him to White Hart Lane.

Ex-Roma director of sport and current Tottenham technical director, Franco Baldini, is believed to have manufactured the move for Allegri -- a man he wanted at the Rome club last summer before Rudi Garcia was appointed.

Corriere dello Sport claims a verbal agreement has already been reached between Allegri and Tottenham, with an official announcement likely to be made only when the season is over as Spurs are still focusing on their push for a place in the Europa League.

After impressing during his stint at Cagliari, Allegri was appointed Milan coach in 2010.

In his maiden season with the Rossoneri, he guided the club to their first scudetto in seven years.

Milan subsequently finished second and third in the following campaigns, before Allegri was dismissed earlier this year with the club lying 11th in Serie A.

Tottenham have also been heavily linked with Louis van Gaal, who is set to step down from his role as Netherlands coach after this summer's World Cup.

The former Barcelona boss said in February that he would like to experience life in the Premier League, while also hinting that Spurs could be his next destination.
