Andre Villas-Boas taking time out
Andre Villas-Boas is to take a break from football, the former Tottenham manager has told Abendzeitung Munich.
Villas-Boas was sacked by Spurs in December and currently has no plans to take on a new challenge anytime soon.
During a visit to Bayern Munich’s winter training camp in Qatar, however, the Portuguese said he will be returning to the game eventually.
“I have decided to take a break,” Villas-Boas said. “I want to learn a bit and refresh my batteries. But I can’t imagine a life without football.”
As well as visiting Bayern’s training camp, Villas-Boas also used the opportunity to check in on fellow Bundesliga side Schalke.
“If you have the chance to, over a couple of days, follow the training sessions of two top German teams, you should take it,” he said.
Villas-Boas said he has not made up his mind yet as to which league he will end up in when he does eventually return to management.
“I’ve learnt that it has to fit 100 percent, and the club has to value the coach,” he said.
Villas-Boas was also full of praise for Bayern coach Pep Guardiola after watching him in action at the European champions’ training camp.
“His legacy is already huge,” Villas-Boas said. “He is highly valued by every coach in the world.
“If you look at how the European top teams play these days, then it is only down to the inspiration he has given with Barca.
“He has changed football. The way it should be played. He has opened the world’s eyes.”
