Villas-Boas dismisses Parker exit talk
Andre Villas-Boas has brushed off suggestions Tottenham would look to sell Scott Parker in January.
Parker, 32, has not played for Spurs this term on account of an injury he picked up at Euro 2012. The England international is closing in on a return to fitness, he came through 90 minutes of a 5-1 reserve friendly defeat by Ipswich recently, but there has been talk that Spurs may look to offload him in January.
But Villas-Boas claims both club and player are only focused on Parker returning to fitness and increasing Tottenham’s midfield options.
"There is competition, but we have not been able to rest as much as we had wanted," Villas-Boas said. "The more options the better for me."
When asked if the club would look to sell Parker, Villas-Boas replied: "I think at the moment he is focused on getting back. We don't doubt his ability and his qualities. He is a player we trust and rate very highly.
"That is not even a consideration," he said when pressed again on whether Parker would be made available for transfer.
Meanwhile, Villas-Boas insists there is no chance that Tottenham will let goalkeeper Brad Friedel return to Blackburn.
Friedel has not played since Spurs' defeat to Manchester City on November 11, with Hugo Lloris starting the last five games.
This has prompted speculation that the veteran American could be on his way back to Ewood Park, where he spent eight seasons between 2000 and 2008.
Friedel's record run of 310 consecutive Premier League games was ended in October, but Villas-Boas insists there is still no pecking order for the goalkeepers.
"Brad's been excellent, I spoke to him and he has been such an important player," Villas-Boas said in the Sun. "Rotation has not been on performance, as I have explained before - as both keepers have been excellent.
"It gives me the ability at any time to throw a different keeper into the game. I don't know anything about Blackburn interest. We are trying to hold on to our best assets. I said it in the case of Gareth Bale and it is the same with Brad too."
