Jozy Altidore focused on fitness with Toronto and United States team

Jozy Altidore says he is focused on staying fit as he looks ahead to a strong upcoming season with Toronto FC and the United States national team.

Altidore, 26, says that despite a tough few years, he is feeling positive and is looking forward to a successful season.

"We start this year with our whole mindset on getting fit," he told ESPN FC. "The past couple of years have been rough so I just want to stay healthy, stay fit and try to help my team the best way I can."

The U.S. international has already been playing professionally for 10 years. After being signed for the New York Bulls at just 16, he has moved between Villarreal, Hull City and Sunderland before finally joining the Canadian side at the end of last season.

Altidore still holds the record for most goals by an American in a European club season with 24 goals in 2012-13 for AZ Alkmaar.

On being asked about his decade of football and his place in the team, Altidore added: "It's pretty crazy but I never thought of it that way and looking back at it, yeah it's my 10th year but I'm happy.

"I hope I can help these guys in any way I can and try to be a guy they look to for guidance and support."
