Toronto's Sebastian Giovinco named Major League Soccer MVP

Sebastian Giovinco was named Major League Soccer's MVP after his debut season for Toronto FC.

The Italian had one of the best individual seasons in MLS history in 2015, as he led the league in goals (22), assists (16) and shots (181). The 28-year-old broke the MLS single-season record for goals plus assists in a season.

"I am very happy [to win] this award. And I hope to win more," said Giovinco of the honor. "I am very happy for my season, personally. A bit less for the team in terms of how it ended. It was a great first season."

Giovinco, who was named MLS player of the week three times and took home player of the month honors twice, is aiming for individual and collective improvement next season.

"My goal is to improve as a player but also as a team, and that's the way we can try to win next year: as a team."

Giovinco was the league's top scorer (tied with Columbus Crew SC forward Kei Kamara, but Giovinco's assists were the tiebreaker), Newcomer of the Year, and the MLS Best XI.
