Toronto FC's Jozy Altidore to miss 4-5 weeks with strained hamstring

Toronto FC striker Jozy Altidore will miss the next four to five weeks with a strained right hamstring, his club announced on Tuesday, ruling him out of upcoming friendlies for the United States.

Altidore was injured in the first half of Toronto's 1-1 draw with the New England Revolution on Saturday.

The United States international was injured in the 18th minute after squaring a pass across the face of goal. He limped to the dressing room, after being treated on the pitch.

Altidore, 25, injured his left hamstring while playing in the American's first game in the World Cup last summer and missed the rest of the tournament. He also hurt his left hamstring in the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinal.

The injury timeline would rule Altidore out for the U.S.' upcoming friendlies against Netherlands on June 5 and Germany on June 10, though he should be fit before the start of the CONCACAF Gold Cup on July 7.

Teams are allowed to make six changes to their 23-man Gold Cup squads ahead of the quarterfinals on July 18 and 19.

Altidore has scored five goals for Toronto in eight starts in his return to Major League Soccer this season.
