Bangkok United FC continued their run atop the Thai League 1 table and remain undefeated after downing Suphanburi FC, 2-1 on Saturday.
Bangkok were in action for the first time since the Thai top division resumed play after as their tie against Ratchaburi last week was postponed due to COVID-19 fears.
Visitors Suphanburi struck first after just 46 seconds of play as Eliandro found the back of the net immediately after kick off at the Thammasat Stadium. The Brazilian forward and defender Alef Vieira Santos threatened to increase the War Elephants' lead in the first half only to be kept out by goalkeeper Michael Falksegaard.
Nattawut Suksum started Bangkok's comeback in the 58th minute with a headed equaliser before Anon Amornlerdsak found the winner in the 71st minute. He arrived in the box unmarked to turn in a cross from Tristan Do -- the Thailand international's second assist of the game.
Promoted Pathum United are putting the pressure on Bangkok after a 1-0 win over Port FC at the PAT Stadium. It was former Port attacker Chenrop Samphaodi's strike that handed the Rabbits the win -- a victory that took them to two points behind Bangkok ahead of their match on Sunday.
Malaysia international defender Dominic Tan's own goal deep into the second-half injury time helped Ratchaburi escape the Boonyachinda Stadium with a 1-1 draw against Police Tero FC. Ratchaburi stay even on points with Pathum but remain third in the standings based on goal difference.
Meanwhile, defending champions Chiangrai United FC recorded their biggest win of the league season by thrashing Nakhon Ratchasima FC 4-0 at the 80th Birthday Stadium on Sunday. They climb up to the fifth spot with 11 points but have played a game more than the leading trio.
Chiangrai's Brazilian forward Bill grabbed the headlines with an impressive hat-trick. The 36-year-old opened the scoring in the 21st minute before converting a penalty nine minutes later to double his side's advantage. Akarawin Sawasdee added Chiangrai's third in the second half before Bill completed his treble during stoppage time.
In other matches held during the weekend, Sukhothai FC edged Trat FC 1-0 to make it 12 points from six matches and take the fourth spot on the tally while Muangthong United are without a win since the restart after being held to a goalless draw by Samut Prakan City FC. PT Prachuap FC defeated Chonburi FC 1-0, thanks to a 79th-minute penalty from Willen.
