Brian Mwila struck twice as Zambia secured a surprise victory over Algeria at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka on Saturday to all but end the North African heavyweights' hopes of a third consecutive World Cup appearance.

The visitors responded through Yacine Brahimi in the second half, but despite losing Fashion Sakala to a red card, Zambia killed off any hopes of an Algerian comeback in the 88th minute when Enock Mwepu struck on the counter.

Sunzu signed a permanent deal with Les Dogues in July 2016 after spending a season on loan with the Ligue 1 side from Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua.

However, Sunzu was sent on loan to Russian Premier League side Arsenal Tula in February 2017, and has been deemed surplus to requirements by incoming coach Marcelo Bielsa.

Zambia, Lesotho reach COSAFA Castle Cup semis

Four-time champions Zambia survived a late scare to book a COSAFA Castle Cup semifinal place with victory over Botswana on Saturday, and are joined in the last four by Lesotho, who squeezed through on penalties ahead of 2013 winners Namibia.

The two quarterfinal ties at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace in the South Africa's North West Province produced just three goals and the expected tight tussles as Zambia won 2-1.

The Basotho then launched into joyous celebration after goalkeeper Likano Mphuthi...
