Libya withdraw as 2017 Cup hosts

Violence-plagued Libya conceded the country won't be able to host the African Cup of Nations in 2017 because of security concerns, throwing organisers into a frantic rush Saturday to find a new venue for the continent's top football tournament.

After announcing Libya's withdrawal as host, the Confederation of African Football gave countries interested in hosting in Libya's place until the end of September -- barely a month -- to submit their bids.

Algeria, Cameroon, Guinea, Ivory Coast and Zambi...

Japan escape scare vs. Zambia

Yoshito Okubo scored a winner in stoppage time for Japan.

When Japan came out at the start of their friendly against Zambia on Friday night (Saturday morning in Japan), it was hard to say which dropped more suddenly -- my heart or my jaw. Both hit the floor with a thud as I read the starting lineups listed on the screen -- unwilling to believe my eyes without written confirmation.

Yoshito Okubo scored a winner in stoppage time for Japan.

TAMPA, Fla. -- Keisuke Honda had two goals and Yoshito Okubo scored in the 91st minute, giving Japan a 4-3 victory over Zambia in their final warm-up for the World Cup on Friday night.

Honda and Shinji Kagawa delivered within a two-minute span of the second half, helping Japan take a lead and seemingly control of the match after falling behind 2-0 in the first 29 minutes.

Zambia's Lubambo Musonda made it 3-3 in the 89th minute, but Japan weren't finished. Toshihiro Aoyama set up the winner w...

Second-half goals from Oscar and Dede earned Brazil a 2-0 friendly win over Zambia on Tuesday in Beijing.

Highlights: Brazil 2-0 Zambia (Pac Rim only)

Chelsea playmaker Oscar opened the scoring in the 59th minute with a deflected 25-yard shot and then defender Dede headed home a second six minutes later to wrap up the win.

The victory was no more than the World Cup hosts deserved as they dominated from the start, with Neymar hitting the crossbar from...
