Zambia must channel spirit of 2012 in African Nations' Cup qualifying

Zambia shocked the continent in 2012 when they claimed top honours at the African Nations' Cup.
Zambia shocked the continent in 2012 when they claimed top honours at the African Nations' Cup.

The amount of professional football matches played in the modern era means a lot of the action melts into a blur and only the truly special moments are crystalized in memory. Zambia's victory in the 2012 African Cup of Nations was one of them.

Not only did they stun an Ivorian side loaded with big names when they beat them 8-7 in a penalty shootout in Libreville to claim the trophy, but they stole hearts with their poignant tribute to the members of their 1993 squad who perished in a plane crash...

Libya withdraw as 2017 Cup hosts

Violence-plagued Libya conceded the country won't be able to host the African Cup of Nations in 2017 because of security concerns, throwing organisers into a frantic rush Saturday to find a new venue for the continent's top football tournament.

After announcing Libya's withdrawal as host, the Confederation of African Football gave countries interested in hosting in Libya's place until the end of September -- barely a month -- to submit their bids.

Algeria, Cameroon, Guinea, Ivory Coast and Zambia...

Both hit the floor with a thud as I read the starting lineups listed on the screen -- unwilling to believe my eyes without written confirmation.

Apart from the presence of Shusaku Nishikawa in net, and Yoichiro Kakitani at the top of the formation, this lineup was virtually identical to the one that took part in last...

Yoshito Okubo scored a winner in stoppage time for Japan.

TAMPA, Fla. -- Keisuke Honda had two goals and Yoshito Okubo scored in the 91st minute, giving Japan a 4-3 victory over Zambia in their final warm-up for the World Cup on Friday night.

Honda and Shinji Kagawa delivered within a two-minute span of the second half, helping Japan take a lead and seemingly control of the match after falling behind 2-0 in the first 29 minutes.

Zambia's Lubambo Musonda made it 3-3 in the 89th minute, but Japan weren't finished. Toshihiro Aoyama set up the winner with...

Rainford Kalaba has over 50 caps for Zambia.

Rainford Kalaba, Stoppila Sunzu and Nathan Sinkala are contracted to Congolese club TP Mazembe, who claimed the trio were not fit enough to make Zambia's trip to China to face Brazil.

In a statement on the club's official website, TP Mazembe explain that Kalaba, Sunzu and Sinkala were sent on a chartered flight to Lusaka...
