Jonathan Klinsmann in right place at Hertha despite criticism - Rune Jarstein

Jonathan Klinsmann has been backed by Rune Jarstein.

Hertha Berlin goalkeeper Rune Jarstein has said Jonathan Klinsmann could not have made a better choice than joining the club despite recent criticism from goalkeeping coach Zsolt Petry.

Petry last week urged Klinsmann, the son of former Germany captain and U.S. coach Jurgen, to improve his work ethic and claimed there was "too much American" in him.

But Jarstein, 33, backed the U.S. youth international and said he was still learning.

"He's a good lad, who has taken a good development path," Norway...

'Too much American' in Jonathan Klinsmann - Hertha Berlin assistant

Relive Jonathan Klinsmann's senior debut for Hertha Berlin, including a late penalty save that helped preserve a 1-1 draw against Ostersunds.

Hertha Berlin's goalkeeping coach has urged U.S. youth international Jonathan Klinsmann to work harder, saying there's "too much American" in the 20-year-old.

Klinsmann, the son of former Germany star and U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann, has made nine appearances for Hertha's under-23 team in the German fourth division and one for the senior team, but he's behind former Bayern Munich goalkeeper Thomas Kraft, 29, and Norway international Rune Jarstein, 33, in the club's pecking order.

Jonathan Klinsmann returned to roots by opting to join Hertha Berlin

Relive Jonathan Klinsmann's senior debut for Hertha Berlin, including a late penalty save that helped preserve a 1-1 draw against Ostersunds.

BERLIN -- U.S. youth international goalkeeper Jonathan Klinsmann knew he wanted to return to his German roots when he joined Hertha Berlin last summer.

Klinsmann, the son of former U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann, went on trial at several European clubs after playing in college at California and with the U.S. at the Under-20 World Cup, before signing for Bundesliga side Hertha last July.

He has since made nine appearances for the club's under-23 team in the fourth division and one for the senior team,...

D.C. United traded the rights to U.S. under-20 midfielder Eryk Williamson to the Portland Timbers on Tuesday.

As a product of D.C.'s academy, Williamson was a homegrown player, but United general manager Dave Kasper told the Washington Post that they could not agree to terms on a professional contract.

The 20-year-old can now sign with the Timbers, who sent D.C. $200,000 in allocation money, a second-round 2018 draft pick and a 2018 international roster slot in exchange.

D.C. United will also retain...

Bayern's Timothy Tillman to switch from Germany to U.S.

ESPN FC's Herculez Gomez gives his take on where the U.S. fell short with Jonathan Gonzalez, leading him to choose to play for Mexico.

Bayern Munich prospect Timothy Tillman will switch to the United States after playing for Germany youth teams, U.S. under-20 coach Tab Ramos has told Goal.

Tillman, 19, last played for Germany's under-19 team in European Championship qualifiers in October, but rather than rejoin them in March, he will join up with the U.S. under-20s instead.

"He told me he's ready to go and ready to join us and I'm excited to have him in the group because we haven't had him in before," Ramos told Goal.
