Milovan Rajevac promotes Kawin to captain as Thailand earn respect

Jason Dasey and PJ Roberts break down Thailand's resilient 1-1 draw with the UAE in World Cup Qualifying.

New Thailand head coach Milovan Rajevac believes his side can approach the final two matches of their Group B World Cup qualifying campaign with confidence after holding the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Bangkok on Tuesday night.

Rajevac came agonisingly close to making history in his first competitive match in charge as the War Elephants conceded the equaliser deep into added time.

Qatar hand South Korea shock defeat; Japan and China waste leads in draws

With AFC WCQ proving to be a tight and tense affair, Jason Dasey and PJ Roberts look at how the Socceroos can advance.
Japan failed to distance themselves atop Group B as Iraq held the Blue Samurai to a 1-1 draw.

The progress of Japan to the World Cup finals hit a roadblock on Tuesday evening as a second-half goal from Mahdi Kamil earned Iraq a 1-1 draw that leaves Vahid Halilhodzic's side in an ever-tightening battle for an automatic berth at Russia 2018.

Yuya Osako scored eight minutes into the game in Tehran to put the Japanese ahead. But Mahdi's goal for the already-eliminated Iraqis complicates Japan's road to the finals.

Despite being sacked as Argentina head coach, Edgardo Bauza thinks and hopes they still qualify for the World Cup.

Former Argentina boss Edgardo Bauza was confirmed as the new manager of the United Arab Emirates national team on Thursday.

"Coaching a new team in the U.A.E. will be a new challenge," the 59-year-old said. "I am eager to be successful in the mission."

The Argentine Football Association controversially sacked Bauza in April after just eight competitive games (three wins, two draws, three losses) in charge. That less-than-stellar form has left the Albiceleste sitting fifth in World Cup qualifying...
