Kirsten Nematandani was head of South Africa's Football Association from 2009 to 2013.

Two former football officials from Africa have been handed life bans from the sport by FIFA's ethics committee, while Kirsten Nematandani, the former president of the South African Football Association, has been given a five-year ban.

Spain rally late to salvage draw at England; Italy and Germany goalless

The FC panel discuss whether England's result against Spain finally guarantees Gareth Southgate the England job.

Spain rallied with two late goals to salvage a 2-2 draw with England in a friendly at Wembley on Tuesday.

Adam Lallana opened the scoring for England from the penalty spot, the Liverpool man playing a whipped-in pass to spring Jamie Vardy in Spain's penalty area, and he was taken down by Pepe Reina with the referee pointing immediately to the spot.

Lallana stepped up and calmly fired home past Reina to put England up 1-0. It was the third goal in as many international matches for Lallana, who was...

Togo's Emmanuel Adebayor a doubt for African Nations Cup

Emmanuel Adebayor hasn't found a club since leaving Crystal Palace in June.

LOME, Togo -- Togo striker Emmanuel Adebayor has suggested he won't be available for the African Nations Cup if he is still without a club and out-of-practice by next month.

Adebayor hasn't played club football since leaving England's Crystal Palace in June and has been criticized in Togo for being unfit and not match sharp when playing for the national team.

Adebayor said in a radio interview in Togo: "If I feel that I am not ready to go to the next African Cup of Nations, I will not ... This is...

Gabon's sacking of Jorge Costa is history repeating itself in Africa

Gabon's coach head Jorge Costa makes a point from the sideline during their African Cup of Nations Group A soccer match against Equatorial Guinea in Bata, Equatorial Guinea, Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015.
Gabon sacked Jorge Costa just months before the African Nations Cup, a surprisingly common move from African federations.

The firing of Jorge Costa by Gabon just 70 days before they host the African Nations Cup continues a sorry tale of panicked and knee-jerk decision making by African football federations. Changing the coach so near to a major event is nothing new to the continent. But, sadly, it has rarely produced the desired results and on most occasions achieved little more than highlighting the foolhardiness of trigger-happy officials.

Gabon's new coach will be Jose Antonio Garrido, who does have some insider...

Le Roy's historic triumph with Togo latest in series of wins on the continent

Claude Le Roy's Togo advanced to the African Nations Cup finals with a 5-0 win over Djibouti.

Togo national team manager Claude Le Roy could not celebrate his team's legendary 5-0 victory over Djibouti in African Nations Cup qualifying at the weekend. His ankle was too sore. He had been kicked, inadvertently, by one of the opposing players as both scrambled for a loose ball that had run into touch.

But if he had been able, the affable Frenchman would surely have danced a little jig. He had taken his new team Togo from a virtually impossible qualifying position to snatching the last available...
