Onyango: We have made AFCON qualification difficult for ourselves

Uganda Cranes captain and goalkeeper Denis Onyango said that his team have made qualifying for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) difficult for themselves after a goalless draw with Tanzania in a Group L qualifier on Saturday.

Onyango rued the Cranes' ability to take their opportunities at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala, but stressed the difficulty of the derby which was enforced by the Taifa Stars' Belgium based captain Mbwana Samatta.

Tanzania want to build a new generation - Amunike

Emmanuel Amunike has revealed that he's overseeing the introduction of a new generation with Tanzania, after the Taifa Stars held Uganda away in Saturday's Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

The goalless draw keeps the East Africans unbeaten and second in Group L on two points, while Uganda are top with four points.

Tanzania haven't qualified for the AFCON since reaching the First Round in 1980, but Amunike is happy with what he's seen from his troops since taking the post in early August.

Emmanuel Amunike's Tanzania deny Uganda away

Emmanuel Amunike marked his debut as Tanzania coach with an admirable 0-0 draw away in Uganda in Saturday's Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

The draw in front of 30,000 Mandela National Stadium, Namboole in Kampala leaves the Cranes atop Group L on four points, while the Taifa Stars' second point takes them up to second.

"I am happy about this result because it leaves us with a good chance of qualifying for the 2019 AFCON," Tanzania FA President Wallace Karia told KweséESPN.

Africa benefits from European coaches, claims Amunike

Tanzania coach and Nigeria great Emmanuel Amunike believes that African football benefits from the influx of European coaches, and believes that local tacticians have much to learn from their foreign counterparts.

African football - both at international and domestic level - has a long history of importing foreign coaches, the majority of whom come from Europe.

While the incoming managers may risk limiting the opportunities for local coaches, Amunike believes that the influx of foreign talent makes...

Tanzania will respect improving Uganda, vows Amunike

New Tanzania coach Emmanuel Amunike has demanded that his side respect an improving Uganda side when the two teams clash in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier next week.

The Cranes, who ended their near-30-year wait to play at the continental high table when they qualified for the 2017 AFCON, currently lead Group L after defeating Cape Verde 1-0 in their opener.

They represent a stern debut for new Tanzania boss Amunike, although the Nigeria great insists he'll be taking nothing for granted.
