China keep alive their 2018 World Cup hopes, as Australia and Japan cruise

China completed a remarkable transformation in their 2018 World Cup AFC qualifying campaign after a 2-0 victory over Qatar saw them advance to the third round on the road to Russia. 

Facing elimination if they failed to win in Xian, China brought the game to life just before the hour. Qatari goalkeeper Amine Lecomte saved from point-blank range but was helpless as the rebound was hit against the underside of the bar and bounced out.

Australia, Jordan cruise in World Cup qualifiers as Thailand, Japan advance

Tom Rogic and Nathan Burns both scored doubles as the Socceroos thrashed Tajikistan 7-0 in Adelaide.

Australia hammered Tajikistan 7-0 in AFC World Cup qualifying in Ange Postecoglou's biggest win as head coach on Thursday.

The Socceroos went ahead through Massimo Luongo in the second minute, then Mile Jedinak slotted home a penalty in the 13th and went into the break at 2-0.

However, the floodgates opened in the second half as another penalty from Mark Milligan made it 3-0 in the 57th minute and Nathan Burns and Tomas Rogic both netted braces in the latter stages to put a gloss on the scoreline.

Tajikistan fear TV audience more than Asian Cup champs Australia - Ergashev

Tajikistan's head coach Mubin Ergashev has admitted that he side is feeling the heat ahead of Thursday's World Cup qualifying match against Australia.

However, it's not the reigning Asian Cup champions that the Persian Lions are nervous to face. Ergashev's men are more worried about the Tajiks back home be watching the qualifier live on television.

Just three weeks ago, a new high-definition sports television channel started broadcasting in Tajikistan and the match against the Socceroos in Adelaide...

North Korea, Qatar win to stay in first place in World Cup qualifying groups

North Korea, Qatar, Thailand and Jordan all won on Tuesday to maintain their group leads in the second round of Asian qualifying for the World Cup.

Jong Il Gwan's 12th-minute penalty gave North Korea a 1-0 win over Yemen in Group H.

The North Koreans opened a four-point lead over Uzbekistan, who have a game in hand.

In the other Group H game, Ismail Abdul-Latif and Sayed Adnan both scored early in the second half to give Bahrain their second win in qualifying, 2-0 at home against the Philippines.
