Solinas aims to get Chiefs strikers firing

Kaizer Chiefs' wasteful strikers face an intense week of work on the practice field after a blunt performance in front of goal on Friday condemned the Soweto giants to their worst start to a league season.

The goalless draw away against 10-man Maritzburg United at a capacity Harry Gwala Stadium marked the fourth Premier Soccer League game without a win for the Chiefs, leaving them with just three points at the start of the new season and plenty of questions about their capacity to challenge for...

Blunt Kaizer Chiefs held by 10-man Maritzburg United

Kaizer Chiefs' disappointing start to the new Absa Premiership season continued on Friday night when they were held to a 0-0 draw by 10-man Maritzburg United at the Harry Gwala Stadium.

Maritzburg had lost their opening three games of the season and played for 75 minutes a man short in this match, but still a blunt Chiefs attack could find no way through to pile more pressure on new coach Giovanni Solinas.

The point will no doubt feel like a loss for Chiefs, who remain winless after four matches...

Kermit Erasmus seals Vitoria Setubal move

South Africa international Kermit Erasmus has signed for Portuguese top-flight side Vitoria Setubal, the club confirmed on Friday.

Erasmus, 28, had seen his career stalled somewhat since an ill-fated move to Stade Rennes in Ligue 1, and was most recently playing for Swedish side AFC Eskilstuna.

He has signed a two-year contract to play in the elite league in Portugal, and will be the second South African to feature for the club after former Bafana Bafana midfielder Eric Tinkler, who Erasmus reveals...

Ailing Soweto giants have opportunity to turn around poor form

Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs have both made stuttering starts to the new league season in a campaign in which they had promised much, but have the chance to show some improvement this weekend.

The two Soweto giants have taken just six points from a possible 18 between them, with Chiefs yet to win after three matches, in what is their second worst start ever to a Premier Soccer League campaign.

The amount of games may not be a fair number on which to judge them, but on first viewing very little...

Late own goal hands Bidvest Wits shock win over Orlando Pirates

An own goal in the last 10 minutes allowed Bidvest Wits a 'snatch and grab' win away at Orlando Pirates for their third win in as many games at the start of the new season and top place in South Africa's Premier Soccer League.

New signing Hashim Domingo's clever play coming in from the flank and then playing a square ball off the legs of Gladwin Shitolo settled the outcome in a match in which Pirates had dominated.

It add to an away win last week at Kaizer Chiefs in what is a major turn around in...
