Baxter bats away negativity after Bafana's thumping win vs. Seychelles

Stuart Baxter says it was the performance more than the result that pleased him as South Africa claimed a record 6-0 African Cup of Nations qualifier victory over minnows Seychelles at a wet FNB Stadium on Saturday.

Bafana Bafana tightened their grip on a place at next year's African Cup of Nations finals with the victory, in which they might easily have reached double figures were it not for some wasteful finishing and the excellent goalkeeping of Seychelles gloveman Romeo Barra.

Ighalo fires Nigeria closer to AFCON, South Africa win big

Odion Ighalo scored a hat-trick as Nigeria took a big step towards the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations with a thumping 4-0 success over Libya on Saturday as the continent's big guns flexed their muscles with significant victories.

Former Watford forward Ighalo netted an early penalty to settle the nerves of the home side before scoring two more in the second period to go with a strike from Samuel Kalu against a Libyan side whose coach, Adel Amrouche, resigned unexpectedly on Tuesday.

South Africa player ratings after Seychelles mauling

South Africa secured a country record 6-0 triumph against a woefully out-gunned Seychelles at a wet FNB Stadium on Saturday as their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign fired back into life.

While the scoreline was certainly emphatic, the side also left a number of goals out on the pitch and should have won by a greater margin.

SAFA vs SABC battle takes new twist 

The war of words between the South African Football Association (SAFA) and South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) took a new twist on Friday when the television station stated they still had the rights to show Bafana Bafana's final two home Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The SABC released a statement in which they say they will broadcast Saturday's home qualifier with Seychelles and next month's fixture against Nigeria at FNB Stadium, as these fall under former contract.
