Veldwijk likely to lead Bafana attack at Afcon

South Africa are likely to turn to gangly Dutch-born striker Lars Veldwijk as a surprise choice to lead their attack when they take on the Ivory Coast in their Africa Cup of Nations opener in Cairo on Monday.

The 27-year-old, who qualifies for South African citizenship because his father was born in the country, has only won two caps and was a surprise choice in Stuart Baxter's 23-man squad for the tournament.

Women's World Cup 2019: Caster Semenya visits Banyana in Paris

Olympic and World champion athlete Caster Semenya hopes she can be an inspiration to the South Africa team competing at the Women's World Cup, paying a visit to their camp in Paris on Wednesday.

"I thought I had to come here and be an inspiration," Semenya said.

The forward will...

The former Banyana Banyana player has warned her players to shape up or face embarrassment at the global showpiece tournament in France this month.

The match kicked off 75 minutes late as South Africa were caught in traffic on their way from their training base in Rouen to the Stade Moulonguet in Amiens. The team then conceded...
