Singapore fall to shock defeat in Cambodia in Suzuki Cup warm up

Cambodia fans
Cambodia fans could celebrate their first victory over Singapore since 1972.

Singapore's training tour in preparation for November's AFF Suzuki Cup ended on a low note on Thursday evening when they were handed a shock 2-1 defeat by 10-man Cambodia at the Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh.

It was Singapore's first loss to Cambodia at senior level since 1972.

The result should serve as a huge wake up call for Singapore with less than four months to go to the Suzuki Cup, with the Cambodians yet to qualify for the 2016 edition.

Singapore to show what they learnt in Japan vs. Cambodia - Madhu

Singapore continues its Japan tour hoping to get back on the winning track after losing two of three friendlies.

Singapore will reap the benefits of their tough Japanese tour in Thursday night's international friendly against Cambodia, says central defender Madhu Mohana.

The Lions lost two out of three matches in Japan, including a shock 3-2 defeat to the Niigata University of Health and Welfare last Wednesday. But Mohana believes that the 25-man squad learnt a lot from their exertions under head coach V. Sundramoorthy.

"The three matches in Japan allowed us to use different tactics against different opponents,"...

To secure their place at the 2016 Suzuki Cup, Cambodia need to go through October's AFF Championship qualification...

Singapore thrashed by Albirex Niigata for second loss on Japan tour

ESPN FC's Jason Dasey and PJ Roberts discuss how much fans should read into Singapore's loss to a Niigata University side.
Singapore
Singapore's squad in Japan was missing many of their most experienced players.

With the start of the AFF Suzuki Cup less than four months away, Singapore were given another wake up call after being thrashed 3-0 by Japanese side Albirex Niigata in a friendly match at the Denka Big Swan Stadium in Niigata City on Sunday.

After conceding three times in the first quarter of an hour, the Lions showed greater defensive steel in the second half to be spared from a heavier defeat.

Albirex Niigata are only in 15th spot in the 18-team J-League. But they were a class above the visitors...
