Hougang United's RHB Singapore Cup campaign came to an end in the Preliminary Round on Wednesday after they lost 2-1 to Philippine outfit Global in extra-time at the Hougang Stadium.

Things were initially looking good for the hosts when Francisco Salvador 'Chupe' Ela fired them in front with a stunning free kick, only for Norio Suzuki to equalise early on in the second half to send the game into extra-time.

LionsXII FA Cup victory must be built upon by Singapore football

ESPN FC's Jason Dasey and John Wilkinson discuss LionsXII Malaysia FA Cup triumph over Kelantan.

LionsXII may have won the Malaysia FA Cup for the first time with a sensational 3-1 victory over Kelantan in Saturday's final, but Singapore must not get carried away.

Here are three ways for Singapore football to build on the Bukit Jalil triumph, thereby recreating the 1980s and '90s love affair all over again.

1. Fandi must be groomed for Lions' hot seat

Singapore owe Radojko Avramovic a favour for helping them become one of Southeast Asia's football powerhouses. In the nine years he was head...

Singapore U23 continued their preparations for the 28th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games with a 2-0 victory over Timor-Leste in a closed door friendly at the Jalan Besar Stadium on Monday night.

Aide Iskandar's team opened the scoring through a Shahfiq Ghani free kick in the 18th minute. Irfan Fandi then scored his second goal in as many games, having found the back of the net in their 5-1 friendly against Cambodia last Saturday.

"It was a good result for us, and the boys put in a good performance,"...

SG Cup: Kaplan scores late winner for Geylang against Lao Police

Geylang managed a late comeback to edge Lao Police FC 2-1 to seal a spot in the last eight.

A late comeback from Geylang International saw them avoid embarrassment with a 2-1 win over Lao Police on Tuesday night at the Bedok Stadium.

The hosts were clear favourites heading into their preliminary clash against the visitors, but a shocking first half display saw them trailing at the break.

However, Jorg Steinebrunner's men eventually managed to turn things around in the final 20 minutes as Jozef Kaplan fired home a late spot kick to prevent an upset.

A sluggish Geylang struggled to fashion...

Singapore coach Bernd Stange has called up Balestier Khalsa goalkeeper Zaiful Nizam, LionsXII midfielder Izzdin Shafiq and Home United winger Yasir Hanapi for the friendlies against Bangladesh and Brunei.

The Lions travel to Dhaka on May 30 to take on Bangladesh at the Bangabandhu National Stadium before returning to play Brunei at home on June 6.

Stange explained his reasoning in giving a call up to Zaiful, who has won many admirers in the S.League over the past year.

He said: "Zaiful has performed...
