Germany's Thomas Muller criticised by San Marino boss over comments

San Marino coach Pierangelo Manzaroli has accused Thomas Muller and Germany of being disrespectful with remarks they made after their 8-0 World Cup qualifying win in Serravalle on Friday.

Muller said he did not "see the point" of playing such games, claiming it was a risk to professional players like himself to be subjected to some of the tackling amateur players dish out.

Germany coach Joachim Low defends Thomas Muller after San Marino anger

Germany head coach Joachim Low has defended Thomas Muller after he was criticised by the San Marino Football Association.

Muller said playing minnows such as the microstate was pointless, leading San Marino to accuse him of arrogance and mock him for not being able to score against teams "as poor as ours."

He added: "I don't understand the point of such uneven games like these, even more so because of the crowded fixture list.

"I understand that for them it is special to play against the world...

Kyle Lafferty scored twice against 10-man San Marino on Saturday.

Michael O'Neill admits Kyle Lafferty's situation at Norwich has given him a conundrum, but praised Northern Ireland's talisman for his late brace against San Marino.

The man who scored seven times in the previous qualifying campaign arrived with 18 minutes to go at Windsor Park, with his country only 1-0 up, and he scored twice and set up another for Jamie Ward as O'Neill's team ran out 4-0 winners in their World Cup qualifier.
