Emir of Qatar insists country will be ready for 2022 World Cup

Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani spoke on many of the concerns the public has raised about the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The Qatari emir has confronted criticisms of the country's preparations for the 2022 World Cup by insisting it will be a success.

Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani succeeded his father last year and has taken a personal interest in the delivery of a tournament that has been shrouded by claims of corruption, dangerous working conditions and safety concerns over extreme heat should a summer schedule go ahead.

He has now addressed all three issues, defending Qatar's World Cup ambition.Touching on ethical...

Qatar World Cup speculation provides a lot of smoke, but no fire yet

When the sport you govern finds itself under pressure, sometimes the only thing you can do is come out fighting.

Ever since Qatar was awarded the right to host the 2022 World Cup, hope has remained in some quarters that the tournament would ultimately be taken away from the tiny Middle Eastern country. Allegations of corruption have generated plenty of smoke, as have the appalling working conditions inside the country. Yet there hasn't been any fire, at least by FIFA's narrow definition.

Melbourne keen to host World Cup 2022 games should Qatar miss out

"Personally, I believe that the 2022 World Cup will not take place in Qatar in the end," he told Sport Bild.

Qatar insists World Cup 2022 question of 'when not if'

FIFA ethics committee chairman Hans-Joachim Eckert admits it may take until late 2015 to finish the investigation into the awarding of the 2018 and 2022 World Cup's.

Qatar organisers insist there's no prospect of the country being stripped of the 2022 World Cup, dismissing a warning by a FIFA executive committee member.

Theo Zwanziger was quoted in his native Germany as saying that he believed the World Cup will not be played in Qatar because of the heat.

Discussions about shifting the tournament dates from the searing summer heat are continuing as FIFA's ethics judge considers the findings of an investigation into the 2018 and 2022 World Cup bidding contests.
