Cristiano Ronaldo sets a new record, clubs celebrate Star Wars Day and plenty more in The Sweeper.

Portugal coach Fernando Santos believes Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo is underappreciated in his homeland.

Ronaldo, 32, is Portugal's most-capped player as well as their all-time leading goal scorer, having netted 71 times in 138 appearances, while he captained the nation to their first major trophy at Euro 2016 last summer.

The forward has also won the Ballon d'Or four times as well as three Champions Leagues among a host of other trophies, yet Santos still feels he is not given the credit...

Canelas' Marco Goncalves banned for four years after referee assault

Canelas 2010 are leading their fourth-tier division after opponents have refused to play them.

A striker of infamous Portuguese side Canelas has been banned for four years after kneeing a referee in the face.

Footage emerged last month of Marco Goncalves physically assaulting an official in their match against Rio Tinto before being escorted off the field by police.

Canelas are top of the Portuguese fourth tier this season, although the majority of their victories have been by default as opposition sides are afraid to face the club and have chosen to incur a €750 fine rather than to...
