Malaysia Asian Cup qualifier in North Korea postponed again by AFC

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has postponed Malaysia's 2019 AFC Asian Cup qualifier in North Korea for a second time after deeming travel to Pyongyang to be a security risk.

The match, which was scheduled to be played on June 8, has now been delayed until Oct. 5 due to "geo-political tension on the Korean peninsula."

An AFC statement read: "Although the AFC had proposed on May 8 that the match which was already postponed from March 28 to take place in the DPR Korea capital, recent developments...

Former Saudi Arabia and Jordan boss Nelo Vingada has been appointed Malaysia national coach, given the task of guiding the team in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup qualifying campaign.

The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) put their faith in Vingada on Monday, with the 64-year-old Portuguese signing a two-year contract. He will arrive on May 25 ahead of the scheduled trip to North Korea on June 8.

Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) are reluctant to send their players to North Korea for next month's rescheduled AFC 2019 Asian Cup qualifier because of fears of "sabotage", despite clearance from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).

Malaysia will open their 2019 Asian Cup qualifying campaign in Pyongyang on June 8.

Malaysia will play their rescheduled 2019 Asian Cup qualifier against North Korea in Pyongyang on June 8 after a ruling by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) on Monday.

The game was originally scheduled for March 28 at the same venue in the Republic's capital city before being postponed due to security concerns.

AFC was considering moving the match to a neutral venue, possibly in China, but the game will now go ahead at its original location.
