Paul Le Guen refused to accept performance-related targets or to live in Nigeria.

Nigeria have admitted they had failed in their bid to land Paul Le Guen as coach of the national side, claiming negotiations broke down over the Frenchman's refusal to accept performance-related targets and to reside in Nigeria.

In a statement signed by executive committee member Suleiman Yahaya Kwande, the NFF said on Wednesday they also disagreed with Le Guen's request to come to the job with two assistants.

The Nigeria Football Federation says former Paris Saint-Germain manager Paul Le Guen has turned down a contract to become the new national team coach.

The NFF had announced the Frenchman's appointment on Monday pending the finalization of his contract. On Tuesday, however, the NFF confirmed that Le Guen objected to having targets written into the deal and did not want to live in Nigeria.

Paul Le Guen, who has coached at Rennes, Lyon and PSG, has been named the new manager of Nigeria.

Nigeria have named Frenchman Paul Le Guen as the new manager of the country's national team.

Le Guen, 52, whose position has been described as technical adviser, will be assisted by Nigerian Salisu Yusuf, who takes the role of chief coach.

Nigeria's League Management Company (LMC) signed a partnership Memorandum of Understanding with NASD Securities this week in a move that could provide the final ingredient required to catalyse the domestic competition.
