Jordan surprise Australia in World Cup qualifying as Japan, South Korea win

ESPN FC's Janusz Michallik questions whether Australia might have been a bit complacent heading into in their AFC World Cup qualifying loss against Jordan.

Jordan scored twice in the second half to upset continental champions Australia 2-0 on Thursday and move to the top of Group B in the second round of Asian qualifying for the World Cup.

They say that a winning team is built on the back of a good goalkeeper. If that is the case, then Singapore should have won a lot more than they have in recent years.

The Lion City has usually had excellent keepers donning the national colours, from David Lee in the 1994 Dream Team to another retired legend in Lionel Lewis, who earned 73 caps in a decade of service. And, of course, the current duo of Izwan Mahbud and Hassan Sunny have created a healthy rivalry for the Lions' starting spot.

Thailand successfully defended their Southeast Asian (SEA) Games football crown with a 3-0 win over Myanmar in the final at the Singapore Sports Hub on Monday night.

Second half goals from defender Tanaboon Kesarat, Chananan Pombubpha and Pinyuo Inpinit sealed victory to give Thailand their sixth gold medal since the tournament became an U23 affair in 2001. The Thais scored 24 goals and conceded just one in seven matches of their successful 2015 title defence.

Myanmar continued their fairytale Southeast Asian (SEA) Games football campaign with a stunning 2-1 victory over favourites Vietnam in the first semifinal at the Singapore Sports Hub on Saturday afternoon.
