Borgetti backs Mexico's confidence ahead of Brazil match

Luis Felipe Scolari spoke highly of Mexico ahead of their Group A clash, and warned his squad of Mexico's set plays and performances against them in previous years.

FORTALEZA, Brazil --The interview of Jared Borgetti on the hotel balcony located on the shore of Fortaleza's bustling Praia de Iracema was interrupted a number of times.

"We love you, come back and play for our country," pleaded the fans, in Spanish, who had spotted their idol.

Borgetti, Mexico striker between 1990 and 2000 and the leading goalscorer in the history of the national team, specialised in scoring goals against Brazil, El Tri's opponents this Tuesday. The match takes place in the Estadio Castelao, in Group A's second round of group games in this World Cup.

"I played five times against Brazil, losing one, drawing another and winning three, all 1-0 and all thanks to my goals" recalled the current ESPN Mexico analyst.

He says the secret behind Mexico's strong displays against the Brazilian national team are down to not showing them too much respect. "The Brazilians aren't from another world, there aren't 12 or 13 players out there on the field, it's 11 versus 11."

Brazil has an historical advantage over Mexico -- 22 wins, 10 defeats and six draws -- but tends to have problems against the CONCACAF side. For example, after Borgetti's retirement, A Seleção were upset in the final of the 2012 London Olympics --- a title they desperately wanted to finally win -- by El Tri.

Borgetti gave Brazil fits when he played for El Tri.

The hero of that final, Oribe Peralta, will also be Mexico's main goalscoring hope Tuesday, according to Borgetti.

"The Mexican team has a chance again; they need to keep doing what they know best, keep the ball, pass it well," he stated.

In his opinion, Peralta, along with Giovani dos Santos, Andrés Guardado or Hector Herrera can be more dangerous against Brazil than popular star Chicharito Hernandez. The Manchester United hitman was on the bench for Mexico's World Cup opener Friday, a 1-0 victory against Cameroon, and Borgetti agrees with the decision.

He explains why. "People like his surname, in the diminutive, he's got a baby-face and when he arrived in Manchester he was really good. But manager Alex Ferguson's exit from the English team didn't help him out at all."
