Switzerland's Admir Mehmedi gifts house to Macedonian family

Admir Mehmedi was born in Macedonia and left as a toddler.

Bayer Leverkusen winger Admir Mehmedi has gifted a house to a poor family in Macedonia, the country of his birth.

Switzerland international Mehmedi, who left Macedonia aged three in the mid-1990s, visited a Macedonian village called Padalisht, where his father introduced him to a family.

Blick reported that the family of six lived inside a house in which they shared two beds in only room, and Mehmedi told the Swiss newspaper: "It affected me to the core."

Spain open World Cup qualifying with big win as 10-man Italy hold on

Despite being down a man for most of the second-half, the Azzuri took three points in their opening WC Qualifying match.

Spain cruised to victory while Italy held on to open their World Cup qualifying campaigns with wins in Group G on Monday.

Diego Costa, David Silva and Alvaro Morata all scored twice as Spain broke the game open in the second half to thrash Liechtenstein 8-0.

In a wild and rainy friendly match, Slovakia came back from 1-nil down to defeat Germany 3-1.

Slovakia shocked World Cup winners Germany with an impressive 3-1 win in a rain-swept Augsburg on Sunday evening.
