Bulgaria survived a major scare as a dramatic late winner from substitute Aleksandar Tonev saw them edge a seven-goal thriller against Luxembourg 4-3 in Sofia.

The hosts took a 16th-minute lead in the World Cup qualifying opener through Dimitar Rangelov's strike before being stunned by a quickfire brace from Luxembourg's Aurelien Joachim, who converted from close range in the 60th and 63rd minutes.

Bulgaria swiftly replied as Marcelinho's header brought them level within another three minutes and...

France top Netherlands; Ronaldo penalty miss in loss; Rep. of Ireland win

Blaise Matuidi celebrates his winner against Netherlands on Friday.

Netherlands were beaten 3-2 by France thanks to a late Blaise Matuidi goal on an emotional night in Amsterdam.

Matuidi struck three minutes from full-time to secure a 3-2 win for France, moments after Netherlands had come from two goals down to level.

The referee stopped play to signal a minute's applause in the 14th minute, representing...

France play on after Paris attacks but lose friendly against England

A brace from Haris Seferovic led the way for Switzerland as they defeated Austria 2-1 in a friendly encounter.

Dele Alli and Wayne Rooney scored as England defeated France 2-0 in a friendly at Wembley on Tuesday, four days after the attacks in Paris.

England controlled much of the action after a rousing national anthem that saw England fans sing "La Marseillaise" in support of the French.

Tottenham's Alli scored his first goal for England in the 39th minute with a sharp shot from outside the area that took a slight deflection.

Rooney, whose earlier opportunity to open the scoring skewed just wide, did find...

Slovakia scored their first goals since June as they booked their place at next summer's European Championship with a 4-2 victory over Luxembourg.

Jan Kozak's side, who had not found the net since their 2-1 win against Macedonia four months ago, clinched automatic qualification thanks to Marek Hamsik's brace and further goals from Adam Nemec and Robert Mak.

It was not all plain sailing for the visitors, however, with Luxembourg scoring twice in four second-half minutes to give their opponents a scare.

Santi Cazorla and Paco Alcacer scored a brace each as Spain confirmed their qualification for Euro 2016 with a 4-0 win over Luxembourg.

Spain had to survive two first-half injury setbacks, as David Silva hobbled off to be replaced by Juan Mata before Alvaro Morata was stretchered and Alcacer came on.

The Valencia man did not disappoint, scoring twice in the second half, before Cazorla -- who had netted in the first -- rounded up a superb night for the hosts.

Spain were unbeaten in 31 home qualifiers...
