Group A Review: Enough talent for Oman and Kuwait to bounce back

Oman head coach Paul Le Guen gave an honest assessment of his side's 2015 Asian Cup performance after a 4-0 defeat to Australia saw them exit the competition at the group stage.

With the group stage now over, ESPN FC runs the rule over the teams that failed to progress to the quarterfinals of the 2015 Asian Cup.

Koreans top Group A at Asian Cup as Oman grab consolation win

Australia suffered a shock defeat to South Korea in their final Asian Cup group game, leaving them second in group A.

Lee Jeong-hyeop's first-half goal gave South Korea a 1-0 win over hosts Australia in Brisbane on Saturday and top spot in Group A heading into the 2015 AFC Asian Cup quarterfinals.

Both teams went into the game with six points, and two-time champions South Korea continued a sequence with their third straight 1-0 win. The Australians created opportunities but were held scoreless for the first time in the tournament after posting eight goals and conceding one in their two opening games.

Abdul al Maqbali ensured that Oman ended their 2015 Asian Cup campaign on a high.

Oman secured their first Asian Cup victory in almost 11 years and third place in Group A in the 2015 edition with a 1-0 victory over Kuwait in Newcastle on Saturday.

Abdul al Maqbali scored in the second half in a game between eliminated teams, with South Korea and Australia having already secured quarterfinal berths from Group A.

The match between the Gulf rivals appeared to be heading towards the tournament's first draw. That was until al Maqbali produced a powerful header to break the stalemate...
