Michel Dussuyer takes over as new coach of Ivory Coast

After previously coaching Benin and Guinea, Michel Dussuyer faces a new kind of pressure in leading the Ivory Coast.
Former Guinea coach Michel Dussuyer will take over Ivory Coast.

ABIDJAN, Ivory Coast -- Michel Dussuyer has been appointed as Ivory Coast's new coach, replacing French compatriot Herve Renard.

Dussuyer has signed a two-year contract to take the defending African champion past the 2017 African Cup of Nations in Gabon. There will then be the option of extending his contract for another two years.

Dussuyer has had three spells as coach of Guinea, most recently leading that country to the quarterfinals at this year's African Cup.

Ivory Coast have 5 candidates in coaching search

Ivory Coast is searching for a new coach to replace Herve Renard.

ABIDJAN, Ivory Coast -- Michel Dussuyer and Henry Kasperczak are on the Ivory Coast Football Federation's five-man shortlist for new coach of the African champion.

Dussuyer, the former Guinea coach, and Kasperczak, the former Mali boss, have the most experience in African football.

Nigeria's Stephen Keshi on list of applicants for vacant Ivory Coast job

Stephen Keshi is a former Nigeria international.

A succession of high-profile names have put themselves forward for the vacant post of Ivory Coast national team head coach, including Nigeria national team boss Stephen Keshi, whose presence on the list has alarmed the Nigerian FA [NFF].

Giovanni Trapattoni and former Southampton manager Dave Jones are also among those on the 59-name list interested in taking over for the departed Herve Renard.

But the biggest name, however, is Keshi, whose inclusion has caused a stir with the NFF.

Ghana beat Mauritius and Cameroon win in African Nations Cup qualifiers

Ghana thrashed Mauritius 7-1 in their opening 2017 African Nations Cup qualifier in Accra.

The Group H favourites were ahead after just 10 minutes against Mauritius, who are ranked 176th in the FIFA World Ranking -- some 142 places below their hosts.

Christian Atsu opened the scoring, heading home a Harrison Afful cross for his ninth international goal, and it was 2-0 shortly afterwards when Jordan Ayew was presented with a tap-in by Jeffrey Schlupp.
