Guinea minister: 'Not possible' to move African Nations Cup 2023 to June

Africa Cup of Nations winners Ivory Coast returned home with the trophy after beating Ghana in the final on penalties.

The African Nations Cup (ANC) finals in 2023 will not be switched to the summer to accommodate the Qatar World Cup, Guinea sports minister Domani Dore has said.

As the World Cup is set to be played in November/December, FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke insisted last week that the 2023 edition of the ANC would be pushed back six months from its usual January date to June.

Ghana boss Avram Grant has called for Guinea goalkeeper Naby Yattara to be handed a one-year ban for his foul on Asamoah Gyan in the teams' African Nations Cup quarterfinal clash.

Ghana progressed to the semifinals with a 3-0 win but Gyan could miss the meeting with hosts Equatorial Guinea after the challenge from Yattara, who plays for Ligue 2 club AC Arles-Avignon.
