Maykel Reyes didn't score on this bicycle kick, but he did score the goal that helped Cuba beat Guatemala 1-0.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Maykel Reyes scored on a header in the 73rd minute to lift Cuba to a 1-0 win over Guatemala on Wednesday night in the CONCCAAF Gold Cup.

Cuba (1-2-0) advanced to the quarterfinals, where it will play the United States on Saturday in Baltimore, Maryland.

The Caribbean nation's first goal of the tournament came when Alberto Gomez sent a crossing pass into the center of the box to Reyes, who headed the ball past Paulo Motta. Reyes ripped off his jersey in celebration.

Andres Guardado can't help Mexico break down Guatemala in Gold Cup

ESPN FC's Alejandro Moreno explains Mexico's Gold Cup draw with Guatemala, where they now need to defeat Trinidad & Tobago.

On paper, it looked as though El Tri should have been able to comfortably win Sunday night's match against Guatemala.

Mexico dominated with 80 percent of possession time, 19 shots and the significant support from the crowd at the sold-out match in the University of Phoenix Stadium. Yet, after 90 minutes, El Tri finished the game with a mere point in a 0-0 draw that had the Mexican side as the heavy favorites.

PHOENIX -- Mexico could only draw 0-0 against Guatemala in Group C of the Gold Cup in a shocking result against a team El Tri was predicted to defeat comfortably.

The point means that Mexico is now second in the group behind Trinidad and Tobago, which defeated Cuba 2-0 on Sunday. El Tri will play the Caribbean side on Wednesday in Charlotte in the final group game to decide which team finishes in first position. Here are three observations from University of Phoenix Stadium.

GLENDALE, Arizona -- Mexico dominated play but couldn't penetrate the Guatemala defense as the teams finished in a 0-0 draw in their CONCACAF Gold Cup match on Sunday night.

Mexico, one of the Gold Cup favorites, were frustrated by a series of near misses in front of a sell-out crowd of 62,910 -- almost all the fans decked out in the red, white or green colors of Mexico.

"We're frustrated by the result, because we didn't win and because the fans supported us so much," Mexico coach Miguel "Piojo"...

Confident Mexico turn their attention to Guatemala

Mexico opened their CONCACAF Gold Cup campaign with an impressive 6-0 win over Cuba.

With an impressive 6-0 win over Cuba now behind them, El Tri are undoubtedly heading into Sunday night's Gold Cup match against Guatemala with plenty of confidence.

Last week's victory was a much-needed boost for the parched Mexican side that had gone seven games without a win. With plenty of goals in hand against the Leones del Caribe, Mexico will look to continue the high-scoring trend against Guatemala in Phoenix.

Although La Bicolor offers a more threatening attack than Cuba, Mexico are still...
