Netherlands shut out Spain while England, Italy draw in friendlies

ESPN FC's Shaka Hislop believes Vicente del Bosque needs to be held accountable for Spain's poor results, while Steve Nicol expresses their need for a centre forward.

Netherlands scored twice in a four-minute span and shut out Spain 2-0 on Tuesday in a friendly in Amsterdam.

Stefan de Vrij's header opened the scoring in the 13th minute, and Davy Klaassen doubled the advantage in the 16th.

Klaassen found himself free to shoot in the middle of the 18-yard box, and though his initial shot was saved by David De Gea, he fired the rebound into the back of the net.

A wave of second-half Spain reinforcements included David Silva, Alvaro Morata and Andres Iniesta, but...

Mexico were victorious over Ecuador in their international friendly, as Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez's first half goal proved the difference.
Federico Mancuello scored from a tight angle and Argentina controlled El Salvador on Saturday.

Ever Banega scored on a deflected shot, Federico Mancuello added a late goal and Argentina beat El Salvador 2-0 in a friendly on Saturday.

Argentina played a lacklustre game without star Lionel Messi, who stayed on the bench with a right foot bruise.

Argentina manager Gerardo Martino started Carlos...

The 2015 Africa Cup of Nations is over, but what next for Equatorial Guinea?

The Ivory Coast celebrated their first Africa Cup of Nations win since 1992 after a nervy final with Ghana.
The Ivory Coast celebrated their first Africa Cup of Nations win since 1992 after a nervy final with Ghana.

MALABO, Equatorial Guinea -- The host nation of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations has not been short on sights that provoke a double take over the past month. Another eyebrow-raiser comes when, on what had been expected to be a day spent back home in London before Monday night's flight was cancelled, you sneak a look around Sipopo.

It is a development built around 20km outside Malabo: the streets are wide, the lawns vast, the golf course lush, the rows and rows of apartments smart and the hotels...

Avram Grant not interested in taking QPR or Aston Villa jobs, says agent

The ESPN FC crew analyse how Aston Villa will move forward following the departure of Paul Lambert and look ahead to Celtic's Europa League clash against Inter Milan.

Avram Grant's agent has played down to ESPN FC talk linking the Ghana coach with the vacant posts at Queens Park Rangers and Aston Villa.

Former Chelsea and West Ham boss Grant has been mentioned as a possible contender for the roles to replace Harry Redknapp at Loftus Road and Paul Lambert at Villa Park.

QPR chairman Tony Fernandes said he has identified his "dream manager" -- but did not reveal who it is in a tweet he posted on Tuesday.

Former Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood was thought to be the frontrunner...
