Egypt among 4 candidates to host 2017 African Nations Cup

Egypt head coach Shawky Gharib says his team are ready to qualify for the 2015 African Cup of Nations ahead of their qualifier against Senegal.

CAIRO -- The Confederation of African Football said Egypt is among four candidates to host the 2017 African Nations Cup.

CAF says Algeria, Gabon and Ghana are also being considered, while bids from Kenya, Sudan and Zimbabwe were ruled out for not meeting "set criteria."

The African football body is looking for a replacement host for Libya, which withdrew over security and organisational concerns. CAF will decide on the new host next year.

GFA: Avram Grant 'almost certain' to coach Ghana after final ANC qualifier

Grant is set to succeed former Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has told the BBC it expects to have a deal in place for Avram Grant to take over as the national team's coach after their final African Nations Cup qualifier against Togo on Wedesday.

Grant, 59, who guided Chelsea to the Champions League final in 2008, is set to officially take on the role for the Black Stars if a financial agreement can be reached with the GFA.

Avram Grant is currently technical director of Thai side BEC Tero Sasana.

Former Chelsea boss Avram Grant is set to become the new coach of Ghana, subject to agreeing terms with the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

Grant, who guided the Blues to the Champions League final in 2008, will officially take on the role if a financial agreement has been reached with the GFA.

Ghana FA to pay back $3m World Cup strike money

ACCRA, Ghana -- The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed it is now able to pay back the money it borrowed from the government to avoid a player strike over unpaid bonuses at the World Cup.

The GFA said in a statement on Thursday that officials would meet with the country's sports minister, Mahama Ayariga, and pay back the loan after the national association received its World Cup appearance money from FIFA.
