Marie Delie scored just 34 minutes into the first half.

Marie Delie scored off a header 34 seconds in, the second-fastest goal in the history of the Women's World Cup, and France routed Mexico 5-0 Thursday night at Ottawa, Ontario, to win Group F on goal difference over England.

Coming off a 2-0 loss to Colombia, France (2-1) scored three times in the first 13 minutes. The only Women's World Cup goal faster than Delie's following the opening kickoff was by Sweden's Lena Videkull against Japan in 1991.

England again failed to beat France on the big stage as Mark Sampson's side suffered a 1-0 defeat in their Women's World Cup opener in Moncton.

After a penalty shoot-out defeat in the 2011 World Cup quarter-finals, and a 3-0 hiding at Euro 2013, this was a chance for England to take revenge but Eugenie Le Sommer's fierce 29th-minute strike made the difference.

A conservative game plan from 32-year-old head coach Sampson, who wanted England to contain France and hit on the break, might have brought...
