Ethiopia drops bid for 2017 African Cup

Ethiopia has dropped its bid to host the 2017 African Cup of Nations.

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia -- Ethiopia has dropped its bid to host the 2017 African Cup of Nations, and will focus instead on the next available tournament in 2025, the president of the country's football federation said.

Junedin Basha said the East African country decided against running as the replacement for Libya after meeting with Confederation of African Football officials.

Zimbabwe submits bid to host 2017 African Cup

HARARE, Zimbabwe -- Zimbabwe has formally submitted a bid to host the 2017 African Cup of Nations, the first attempt by the troubled country to host a major sports event since its contentious co-hosting of the cricket World Cup over a decade ago.

The Zimbabwe Football Association said it lodged the African Cup bid papers on Monday at the Confederation of African Football headquarters in Cairo to meet Tuesday's deadline.

Ethiopia will bid to host the 2017 African Cup of Nations after Libya pulled out citing security concerns.

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia -- The president of the national football federation says Ethiopia will bid to host the 2017 African Cup of Nations after Libya pulled out citing security concerns.

Coach Sewnet Bishaw insists Ethiopia were "cheated" in their 2-0 World Cup play-off defeat to Nigeria, with a number of penalty shouts for his sides waved away.
