Andres Guardado
Andres Guardado watches his first-half opener sail into the net in Mexico's 3-0 win against El Salvador.

Juan Carlos Osario's debut as Mexico head coach got off to a flying start with a 3-0 win over El Salvador in CONCACAF World Cup qualifying.

The new manager didn't have to wait long for a goal in his bow for El Tri, as Andres Guardado scored from a free kick in the seventh minute to put his team ahead.

Mexico continued to apply the pressure and were unlucky on several occasions in the first half to not score.

Hector Herrera scored just before the first-half whistle blew, as his chip...

Mexico cruise to easy win vs. El Salvador in Osorio debut

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea reminisces about playing alongside Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez.

MEXICO CITY -- Mexico cruised to a 3-0 win over El Salvador on Friday in the Estadio Azteca in El Tri's opening qualifying match for Russia 2018.

Here are my three quick takes:

1. Easy win in Osorio's debut

Mexico's first kick of its Russia 2018 qualifying campaign was greeted by an "Ole" inside the Estadio Azteca, as were the second and the third. It was that sort of night for El Tri, stripped really of any real test from a poor El Salvador side in the midst of a crisis.

The "theater of...

Orlando City GM upset by international duty as Kaka returns injured

Orlando City's general manager has spoken out against the FIFA mandate to release players for international duty, saying the MLS club is "extremely disappointed" that Brazilian star Kaka returned with a leg injury.

Kaka played 23 minutes for Brazil in a 1-0 win against Costa Rica on Friday but did not appear in Tuesday's 4-1 rout of the United States after reportedly suffering a muscle strain.

He sat out training on Monday to work with a physiotherapist and returned to his MLS club late on Wednesday...

Jamaica find late goal to survive in CONCACAF World Cup qualifying

Jamaica waited until the 89th minute at Nicaragua but finally found the crucial goal for a 2-0 win that kept them alive in CONCACAF World Cup qualifying on Tuesday.

The Reggae Boyz, fresh off making the final of the Gold Cup, came all the way back after dropping into a three-goal hole in their home leg to advance 4-3 on aggregate.

Jamaica had managed to cut Nicaragua's lead to 3-2 by the end of last week's first leg, and Darren Mattocks' 13th-minute opener in the second leg put...
