VOLGOGRAD, Russia -- Saudi Arabia and Egypt will try to avoid finishing last in Group A as they bow out of the World Cup on Monday, a disappointing end to the tournament in particular for Egypt and their usually prolific striker Mohamed Salah.

Both teams lost their first two games and the only thing they can salvage in the Volgograd Arena is the chance not to finish bottom of their group.

For Saudi Arabia, the match also offers the possibility of a first goal in the tournament in Russia.

Egypt's Mohamed Salah given honorary citizenship by Chechnya leader Ramzan Kadyrov

After Russia's big win over Egypt, the FC crew assess what's going right for the hosts and reflect on Egypt's choice to rest Mo Salah vs. Uruguay.
Japan and Senegal surprised the two favourites in Group H, Colombia and Poland, while Russia closed in on the last 16 with a win over Egypt.
The hosts Russia continue their fine World Cup form, Japan beat 10-man Colombia and Senegal become the first African nation to win at the 2018 World Cup.

Chechnya leader Ramzan Kadyrov has made Egypt striker Mohamed Salah an honorary citizen of the southern Russian region at a farewell banquet held for the eliminated World Cup side.

Chechnya's capital, Grozny, has been hosting Egypt's training camp and Kadyrov, backed by the Kremlin, has seized on opportunities to appear alongside Salah, whose goalscoring exploits for Liverpool and Egypt have made him an international superstar.

"Mohamed Salah is an honorary citizen of the Chechen Republic. Yes,...

Mohamed Salah not leaving World Cup early - Egypt FA

After Russia's big win over Egypt, the FC crew assess what's going right for the hosts and reflect on Egypt's choice to rest Mo Salah vs. Uruguay.
The hosts Russia continue their fine World Cup form, Japan beat 10-man Colombia and Senegal become the first African nation to win at the 2018 World Cup.

Mohamed Salah will not leave the World Cup early despite Egypt's elimination from the competition with one group game remaining, the country's Football Association has said.

Salah returned from an injury suffered in the Champions League final to feature in the 3-1 defeat against Russia on Tuesday, a result that ended their participation in the tournament and led to reports that he could be released before the final group game against Saudi Arabia on Monday.

However, Egyptian FA president Hany Abo...

Emmanuel Eboue: African teams need to be better in defence

Former Ivory Coast and Arsenal right-back Emmanuel Eboue says African teams will continue to struggle at the World Cup if they don't improve their defence.

The five teams from the continent arrived in Russia with high hopes of finally reaching the semifinals, but already Morocco and Egypt are eliminated after only two rounds of games, while Nigeria and Tunisia also lost their openers.

Many of the goals conceded have come from set-pieces, with Cristiano Ronaldo's header from a corner-kick knocking...

Africa showing few signs of World Cup breakthrough

Africa's much-awaited and coveted tilt at World Cup glory looks as far off as ever after a dismal round of opening fixtures for the continent's teams at the tournament in Russia.

Not even a win for Senegal in their first Group H in Moscow on Tuesday could temper an otherwise disaster-filled opening six days of the tournament for African hopes.

Five defeats in the six games featuring African teams offered little hope of new benchmarks being set, with Senegal's 2-1 triumph over Poland the only bright...
