Egypt remain Africa's top-ranked team

Africa Cup of Nations finalists Egypt remain the top-ranked African team following the release of the latest FIFA rankings.

With just seven games played during the points timeframe, there was very little movement in the rankings, with no change among the top 70 teams.

AFCON champions Cameroon are ranked 33rd and third on the CAF list, while Nigeria's Super Eagles are 40th, Ghana at 45 and South Africa 64th.

South Africa's Danny Jordaan withdraws from FIFA Council election

The 2015 African Nations' Cup final could very well be moved from Morocco to the venue that hosted the 2010 World Cup final, Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg.
The U.S. Department of Justice has alleged that two senior South African bid officials were involved in bribing FIFA executives to vote for South Africa.

South African football head Danny Jordaan withdrew as a candidate for a place on the FIFA Council as the governing body was deciding which African officials passed eligibility tests and would be allowed to stand in elections next week.

Jordaan, the president of the South African Football Association and organiser of the 2010 World Cup, was withdrawn from the FIFA vote by his association, the Confederation of African Football said on Tuesday in an internal memo sent to its member countries and obtained...

African Nations Cup concludes with magical final but plenty of questions

LIBREVILLE, Gabon -- Sport has a habit of forcing you into compromises. When Vincent Aboubakar volleyed in the most dramatic of tournament winners, doing it in the most raw and visceral of football atmospheres at Stade de L'Amitie, few people watching could say in good faith that they were not swept away by the moment. Cameroon's fifth Africa Cup of Nations title was surprising by any measure, a patchwork team of relative unknowns visibly growing in confidence and momentum to achieve something...

Cameroon take 2017 African Nations Cup crown as Aboubakar nets stunner

LIBREVILLE -- Three thoughts from Cameroon's 2-1 win over Egypt, which sees them crowned African Nations Cup champions.

1. Aboubakar's stunning goal gives Cameroon the title

Cameroon are African Nations Cup champions for the fifth time, and they could not have won a more unlikely title than this. Nobody gave Hugo Broos' remoulded side, missing a number of key players, a chance of coming home from Gabon with the trophy, but a brilliant 88th-minute volley from substitute Vincent Aboubakar turned this...

Substitute Vincent Aboubakar struck a dramatic late winner as Cameroon defied the odds to sink favoured Egypt and claim their fifth African Nations Cup triumph with a 2-1 win on Sunday.

Mohamed Elneny had put Egypt in front midway through the first half but a stirring second-half performance from Cameroon saw Nicolas N'Koulou equalise before Aboubakar fired home with a sublime piece of skill in the 88th minute.

Victory was all the more remarkable for the Indomitable Lions and their unheralded...
