Tomas Rosicky might miss qualifiers for Czech Republic with knee injury

Tomas Rosicky is a doubt to play for the Czech Republic in their upcoming qualifiers.

PRAGUE -- Czech Republic captain Tomas Rosicky could miss European Championship qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Latvia in September.

The Arsenal midfielder injured his knee in June in another Euro 2016 qualifying match against Iceland and underwent arthroscopic surgery last week.

Czech football federation head Miroslav Pelta said Wednesday that "we have information from Arsenal that everything is getting better but time is against us."

Josef Masopust, Czech World Cup star of 1962, dies at the age of 84

Josef Masopust was named best Czech footballer of the century in 2000.

Czech football great Josef Masopust, the former Ballon d'Or winner who led the national side to the final of the 1962 World Cup, has died aged 84.

The Club of Josef Masopust's Friends, the organisation that takes care of his legacy, said he died in his Prague home on Monday morning. No cause of death was given, but the Czech public television said he was battling a serious, long-term illness.

Banik Most players warned over lie detector tests

Both FIFPro and the Czech players' union have questioned the reliability of polygraph tests.

FIFPro has urged players at Czech club Banik Most not to take lie detector tests over suspicions of match-fixing.

Banik Most, second bottom of the Czech second division after suffering nine straight defeats, appear certain to be relegated as they are 10 points from safety with five games to play, and the club announced on their official website on Monday that, after an internal analysis of last month's 5-2 defeat to FK Pardubice, the players would be subjected to a polygraph.
