New Czech coach omits Pavel Jiracek

PRAGUE -- New Czech Republic coach Pavel Vrba has chosen no new players for his first match, a home friendly against Norway next week.

Vrba, who took over on Jan. 1 after the team's failure to qualify for the World Cup, will rely on mainstays Petr Cech, the Chelsea goalkeeper, and Tomas Rosicky, the Arsenal playmaker.

Baros retires from internationals

Czech Republic striker Milan Baros has announced his retirement from the national team, following his side’s 1-0 defeat to Portugal in the Euro 2012 quarter-final stage.

Baros, 30, is the second highest scorer in his country’s history with 41 goals in 93 games, behind only former strike partner Jan Koller.
