Detained Czech Republic federation chairman Miroslav Pelta resigns

The Czech football federation says its detained chairman has resigned from his post.

Miroslav Pelta has been in custody since May 3, when police raided the federation headquarters. Police also raided the offices of FK Jablonec, a provincial first-division club partly owned by Pelta.

Prosecutors are investigating possible fraud involving Pelta, the federation and two education ministry senior officials in connection with state subsidies from the ministry. Education Minister Katerina Valachova already...

Marouane Fellaini nets Belgium winner; Russia's Roman Zobnin injured

Marouane Fellaini headed home the winner for Belgium.

Belgium edged Czech Republic 2-1 in a friendly on Monday, with Michy Batshuayi and Marouane Fellaini scoring to make up for a defensive howler from Kevin De Bruyne.

Batshuayi, whose goal for Chelsea sealed the Premier League title last month, highlighted his fine form with a low drive across goal to open the score in the 25th minute.
