Sam Allardyce's England to face Croatia in friendly - reports

England's new manager Sam Allardyce intends to get to know his staff as he settles in at the helm of the national team.
New England manager Sam Allardyce believes the job has come at the right time for him.
Sam Allardyce is all smiles after being named England manager, a job he says he has waited years for.

Sam Allardyce's first game in charge of England will be a friendly against Croatia, according to British newspaper reports.

Allardyce was appointed England manager last Friday, succeeding Roy Hodgson following the nation's round-of-16 exit to Iceland at Euro 2016.

The team's next confirmed fixture is against on Sept. 4 when they take on Slovakia in their opening 2018 World Cup qualifier.

But The Guardian, The Daily Telegraph and The Daily Mirror report that the Three Lions will take on Croatia in...

Real Madrid star Luka Modric meets basketball hero Stojko Vrankovic

It's fairly common knowledge that Luka Modric isn't exactly the biggest of chaps, with the diminutive Real Madrid midfielder standing 5-foot-7 and weighing just 65 kilos.

However, never has the Croatia international looked smaller than when he bumped into fellow countryman and retired basketball player Stojko Vrankovic at a hotel in Zadar.

The fact that Vrankovic is a massive 7-foot-2 gave the resulting photo the air of a kindly father treating his young son to a posh dinner in front of the fancy...

Antoine Griezmann, Iceland and Wales among the stars of Euro 2016

Portugal won Euro 2016 thanks to an extra time victory over France in Paris.

Congratulations to Portugal, winners of Euro 2016.

ESPN FC had country bloggers covering their team throughout the tournament in France and each have rated their side out of 10, chosen their favourite memory, star man, team of the tournament and predict what's next for their side.

ALBANIA: 7/10

Favourite memory: Hal Robson-Kanu scoring Wales' crucial second against Belgium in their 3-1 win in the quarterfinals. The unattached striker fooled three defenders before clipping a shot...

Ronaldo and Portugal's glory, Iceland and Wales heroes while England flop

Portugal won Euro 2016 after beating France in the final

ESPN FC had bloggers covering each country at Euro 2016. It was glory for Portugal, who overcame Cristiano Ronaldo's injury to stun France in the final.

Elsewhere, England endured a miserable tournament, limping through the group stages before an abject 2-1 defeat to Iceland in the round of 16 cost Roy Hodgson his job.

Iceland were one of the stories of the competition, though, reaching the quarterfinals before bowing out to the hosts. Similarly, Wales also captured the imagination following their...

Atletico Madrid sign Croatia defender Sime Vrsaljko from Sassuolo

Sime Vrsaljko is moving from Italy to Spain with Atletico Madrid.

Croatia defender Sime Vrsaljko has left Sassuolo to sign a five-year deal with Atletico Madrid.

After the transfer was completed on Monday, the 24-year-old tied his future to the Spanish club until 2021.

Vrsaljko moved to Genoa from Dinamo Zagreb in 2013, then went on to Sassuolo a year later.

"Playing in Atletico is a big challenge for me, I'm very happy," he told Atletico's official website.

Vrsaljko played for Croatia in this summer's European Championship, first coming on as a...
