Srna would add needed experience and depth for Barca at right back

ESPN FC's Shaka Hislop is surprised Lionel Messi's contract negotiations with Barcelona have hit such a stalemate.
Darijo Srna (L) of Shakhtar controls the ball during the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round first leg soccer match Shakhtar Donetsk vs Young Boys Bern, in Lviv, Ukraine, 26 July 2016.
Darijo Srna's cheap price tag and wealth of experience make him an enticing option for a club like Barcelona.

With Aleix Vidal's future lying away from Barcelona, the Catalan club have been linked with a range of right-backs. The latest is Shakhtar Donetsk's Darijo Srna. Here are five reasons why the former Croatian international may be the most sensible addition to Luis Enrique's squad in January.

Croatia defeat prompts Micheal O'Neill to rethink Northern Ireland fixtures

Northern Ireland were no match for Croatia on Tuesday.

Michael O'Neill witnessed Northern Ireland suffer their first home loss in three years and admitted he may reconsider arranging friendlies after competitive games in the future.

It rounded off a memorable calendar year in disappointing fashion, though will certainly not overshadow the memories of Euro 2016 and the record...

Since Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat trick in a 4-2 win for Portugal, Michael O'Neill's men had recorded eight wins and two draws in their previous 10 fixtures in Belfast, but they were undone by a Croatian team missing Luka Modric, Ivan Rakitic and Dejan Lovren among others.

Mario Mandzukic, the most-high profile player in the visitors'...

Croatia boss Ante Cacic vows to call up Lovren for qualifiers

Dejan Lovren hasn't played for Croatia since before the summer.

Croatia manager Ante Cacic insists he has buried the hatchet with Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren and fully expects him to be involved in future World Cup qualifiers.

The Croats arrived in Belfast over the weekend without a raft of senior players, including Lovren, who asked not to be called up for either Tuesday's friendly with Northern Ireland or last Saturday's World Cup qualifier against Iceland for personal reasons.

Lovren has endured a rocky relationship with Cacic, his former boss at Inter...

Marcelo Brozovic scored both goals as Croatia opened up a gap at the top of Group I with a 2-0 win over nearest rivals Iceland.

The Inter Milan midfielder opened the scoring in the 15th minute and added his second in added time, with Ivan Perisic's sending-off moments later making no difference to the outcome.

Heading into the match level on seven points with Croatia, it was no surprise to see Iceland sticking to their tactics of sitting behind the ball and counter-attacking at speed, which served...
