Real Madrid star Luka Modric meets basketball hero Stojko Vrankovic

It's fairly common knowledge that Luka Modric isn't exactly the biggest of chaps, with the diminutive Real Madrid midfielder standing 5-foot-7 and weighing just 65 kilos.

However, never has the Croatia international looked smaller than when he bumped into fellow countryman and retired basketball player Stojko Vrankovic at a hotel in Zadar.

Iceland were one of the stories of the competition, though, reaching the quarterfinals before bowing out to the hosts. Similarly, Wales also captured the imagination following their...

"Playing in Atletico is a big challenge for me, I'm very happy," he told Atletico's official website.

Croatia's high-flying Euro 2016 comes to crashing halt in last 16

Croatia's high-flying Euro 2016 came to a crashing halt in a 1-0 last 16 loss to Portugal. Here's an assessment of their campaign in France, and where the national team goes from here.

At a glance

The Euro 2016 was a rollercoaster of emotions for Croatia, featuring the good, the bad and the ugly in abundance. The team played their best football in years during the group stage, only to be knocked out in a deeply disappointing encounter with Portugal in the round of 16.
