Marcello Lippi's China saw their World Cup hopes end despite victory over Qatar on Tuesday.

Marcello Lippi refused to dwell on missed opportunities as China's hopes of a second appearance at the World Cup finals came to an end on Tuesday despite a 2-1 win over Qatar in Doha.

Xiao Zhi and Wu Lei scored the goals that saw Lippi's team pick up a third win in five games but still fall short of a place in the playoffs against Australia that would have kept their World Cup dream alive.

But with 10 points in six games since Lippi took over from Gao Hongbo last November, some Chinese fans have...

Marcelo Lippi wants China to keep fighting for World Cup dream

Marcello Lippi has urged his players to keep fighting to turn their unlikely World Cup dream into reality after Gao Lin's late penalty saw China hand Uzbekistan a 1-0 defeat on Thursday evening.

Gao struck from the spot six minutes from time after Feng Xiaoting was bundled over in the box as the Chinese kept their slim hopes of a place in the playoffs for Russia 2018 alive.

The win was China's second in four games and moved Lippi's team into fifth place in Group B, just three points behind Syria,...
