Arturo Vidal wants Confederations Cup involvement even if preseason affected

Jerome Boateng backs Bayern striker Thomas Muller and feels he's been quite unlucky in front of goal this season.

Arturo Vidal says he wants to play for Chile in the Confederations Cup this summer even if it means missing the start of preseason training with Bayern Munich.

Chile are one of eight teams to be involved in this summer's tournament in Russia, having qualified for the first time through winning their maiden Copa America in 2015.

If Chile progress to the latter stages of the competition, held between June 17 and July 2, then Vidal would likely miss Bayern's early preparations for next season, starting...

Arturo Vidal says FIFA rules aren't the same for Lionel Messi

Stevie Nicol and Sebastian Salazar react after FIFA's Appeal Committee lifted Lionel Messi's four-game suspension.
Lionel Messi has won his appeal against a four-game ban on World Cup qualifying duty with Argentina.
Barcelona cruised to a 4-1 win at home against Villarreal, with Luis Suarez, Neymar, and Lionel Messi all on the score-sheet.

Chile star Arturo Vidal says FIFA would not lift a suspension for every player like the world governing body did for Lionel Messi this week.

Messi was dealt a four-game ban by FIFA's disciplinary panel in March after television footage showed him verbally abusing a match official during Argentina's qualifier against Chile.

He subsequently missed his country's 2-0 defeat to Bolivia, but FIFA on Friday granted Messi's appeal and lifted the sanction, saying "the evidence available was not sufficient...

Chile duties rule Juan Antonio Pizzi out of running for Barcelona job - agent

Steve Nicol delves into who he feels will be Luis Enrique's successor at Barcelona.

Juan Antonio Pizzi will not be the next Barcelona manager, according to his agent Ricardo Schlieper.

Athletic Bilbao's Ernesto Valverde and Luis Enrique's assistant Juan Carlos Unzue are the current front runners to take over at Barca this summer, but Diario Sport reported on Monday that Chile coach Pizzi was also being considered by the Catalan club's hierarchy.

Pizzi spent two years playing for Barca in the 1990s and also has managerial experience in La Liga, having briefly coached Valencia just...

Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez: I used to play football in local jail as a youngster

The ESPN FC panel share their thoughts on the rumours that Chelsea are looking to sign Alexis Sanchez this summer.
Arsenal legend and current T&T assistant Sol Campbell discusses Arsene Wenger's current situation and future at the Emirates.

Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez has revealed that that he played football as a kid in his local jail in Chile.

Sanchez, who grew up in the Chilean city of Tocopilla, is well known for his passion on the football pitch.

And the Chile international told Arsenal Player how this hunger for the game led to him playing wherever and whenever he could as a youngster -- even if it meant going in goal.

"I wanted to be a professional footballer from when I was small," he said. "My mental approach was always...

Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez clocked at 155 kph in Chile, gets speeding ticket

Alejandro Moreno says Argentina's win over Chile in qualifying covered up glaring problems for Edgardo Bauza's side.

Arsenal attacker Alexis Sanchez was given a speeding ticket and must appear in court after being clocked driving at 155 kilometres per hour (96 mph) in the Buin area, south of Santiago, during a free afternoon given to the Chile national team.

Police fined Sanchez on Saturday, and his court date was set for April 12.

La Roja were beaten 1-0 in Argentina in a key World Cup qualifier last week, and Juan Antonio Pizzi's side now need a win over Venezuela.

Three points on Tuesday -- when...
