Villarreal complete Toko Ekambi signing

Villarreal have completed the signing of Cameroon international Karl Toko Ekambi from Angers, the Spanish side confirmed on Thursday.

The 25-year-old joins the Yellow Submarine on a five-year deal, according to a statement on the club's official website.

The forward was one of the breakout stars in Ligue 1 last season, scoring 17 goals and contributing six assists in 37 top-flight outings as Angers finished 14th.

Angers striker Karl Toko Ekambi as been named the best African player in Ligue 1 after winning the Marc-Vivien Foe award on Monday.

The international forward is the first Cameroonian to win the award, which is named after the late Indomitable Lions midfielder who died after collapsing during the Confederations Cup in 2003.

African journeyman Henri Michel passes away

Former French international and manager Henri Michel passed away on Tuesday morning at the age of 70.

Michel played 58 times for his country between 1967 and 1980, and later guided the Olympic and senior Les Bleus sides.

He led the Olympic side to the gold medal at the 1984 Games in Los Angeles, beating Brazil 2-0 in the final. Under his guidance the senior side reached the semifinals of the 1986 World Cup before defeat to West Germany.

Cameroon have attracted former France coach Raymond Domenech and German World Cup winner Lothar Matthaus among the more than 70 coaches who have applied to lead the African champions.

Other well-known names to apply are Carlos Queiroz, the former Manchester United assistant coach, and Rigobert Song, the ex-Cameroon captain who has been coaching the national development team.
