Match-fixing: More regulation needed

OK, so at some point in the past two weeks (at what point -- as you'll see -- is crucially important) a convicted match-fixer named Wilson Raj Perumal decided to chat with a German journalist from the magazine Der Spiegel.

They chose to do so on Facebook (possibly because it's still 2009 where they live, or maybe because Snapchat was unavailable). In the course of the conversation, according to Der Spiegel, Perumal claimed that the Cameroon squad at the World Cup had "seven bad apples in it" and...

FIFA: No evidence of match-fixing

Cameroon officials will investigate claims from a German magazine that seven players were involved in match-fixing at the World Cup.

FIFA has said there has been no evidence of match-fixing at any World Cup match and called on the German magazine that made allegations concerning Cameroon to offer proof.

Convicted match-fixer Wilson Raj Perumal has denied that he correctly predicted Cameroon's result against Croatia to Der Spiegel magazine before the game.

Der Spiegel is standing by its report but has yet to provide definitive evidence of the Facebook discussion with a journalist.

FIFA's head of media Delia Fischer told a news...

FIFA probes match-fixing claims

Cameroon officials will investigate claims from a German magazine that seven players were involved in match-fixing at the World Cup.

FIFA president Sepp Blatter is waiting for the outcome of investigations into allegations that Cameroon players were involved in match-fixing at the World Cup, amid contradictory statements about the claims.

- Moonda: Africa departs Brazil in disappointment

The allegations were made by Der Spiegel, which on Tuesday said it stuck by its report which stated convicted match-fixer Wilson Raj Perumal correctly predicted Cameroon's result against Croatia -- a 4-0 defeat -- and that a player would be s...

Africa departs Brazil in disappointment

Cameroon officials will investigate claims from a German magazine that seven players were involved in match-fixing at the World Cup.

Africa's World Cup is over. It did not end as the continent would have liked, without the results it had hoped for and with no new ground broken. In fact, old ground wasn't even covered as none of the five African teams that entered the tournament will feature in the quarterfinals.

Given the huge impact made on home soil in 2010, underperformance was the standout failing of the African countries at this World Cup. Each was slow out of the starting blocks, with only one team winning its opening m...
