Brazil replace Argentina at top of FIFA rankings, Belgium out of top five

The FC panel debate the best team in international football and highlight Brazil's impressive resurgence.
Gab Marcotti and Alejandro Moreno enthusiastically debate whether Brazil can be called the world's best team right now.
ESPN FC's Alejandro Moreno delves into Neymar's role for Brazil, focusing in on how he's matured on and off the pitch.

Brazil have taken over at the top of the FIFA rankings for the first time since 2010.

The first team to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, Brazil have won nine consecutive games since Tite took over as coach.

The Selecao replace Argentina in top spot, a side whose participation at the World Cup in Russia is in doubt following poor recent form.

World champions Germany are third and the only non-South American side in the top five, with Chile and Colombia just behind in fourth and fifth respectively.

Gabriel Jesus reminds how good Brazil can be in 3-0 win over Ecuador

This was a match in which a draw would have been an acceptable result, so the era of coach Tite could hardly have started better, with Brazil coming down from the mountain celebrating a win against Ecuador at the altitude of Quito. In a venue where the hosts are so strong, Brazil's 3-0 win is a massive morale booster. It should be a sign of better things to come. It is certainly a sign that, belatedly, Brazil have the right man in charge of their national team.

Tite has had next to no time to...

Alen Stajcic hails the Matildas in Olympic quarterfinal loss to Brazil

Matildas coach Alen Stajcic
Matildas coach Alen Stajcic guided his side to the quarterfinals of the Olympics in Brazil.

Devastated Matildas coach Alen Stajcic has described his side's Olympics quarterfinal loss to Brazil as one of the most courageous efforts he has seen in Australian sport.

Australia's Rio campaign came to an end on Friday night, snuffed out in a dramatic 7-6 quarterfinal penalty shootout in Belo Horizonte.

Looking to break a 0-0 stalemate after extra time, the Matildas had a chance to seal a semifinal berth when local star Marta missed Brazil's fifth spot kick, only for Katrina Gorry's reply to...

Matildas will learn lessons from Brazil friendly defeat - Alen Stajcic

Australia's women's team will enter the Olympics all the wiser for a 3-1 away loss to Brazil, coach Alen Stajcic says.

The Brazilians, aided by some home-town calls in the friendly at Fortaleza on Saturday, scored three times after Australian star Katrina Gorry was sent off.

Gorry was marched for second yellow card in the 50th minute, when the Matildas held a 1-0 lead in their sole warm-up for the Rio Olympics.

"When the game was 11 vs. 11, it was certainly more in our favour than it was for them,"...

Northern Ireland to learn from Brazil's horror show against Germany

Northern Ireland are prepared to learn from five-time World Cup winners Brazil's failings as they try to upset Germany and book a Euro 2016 round-of-16 berth in Paris.

The Green and White Army supporting Michael O'Neill's side in France include "We're not Brazil, We're Northern Ireland" among their back catalogue of chants and they will be keen not to follow their lead when establishing a game-plan to nullify the reigning world champions.

Two years ago Brazil, then the hosts, were embarrassed in...
