Euro 2016 Forecaster: Several seeded teams in danger of not qualifying

Germany coach Joachim Loew and midfielder Mario Gotze look ahead to their crunch Euro 2016 Group D qualifiers against Poland and Scotland.

The penultimate week of Euro 2016 group qualifying begins on Thursday, and 17 different countries could clinch a spot in France by Tuesday. The qualifying campaign has been rife with upsets, resulting in only two of the nine seeded teams currently being on top of their groups.

With the forgiving nature of qualifying, not all of the seeds are in danger of being eliminated. Each group's top two teams qualify automatically for Euro 2016. The best team of the nine third-place clubs also gets a direct berth, and the other eight third-place teams enter playoffs for the final four spots.

But as it stands, ESPN's Soccer Power Index (SPI) forecasts three seeded teams to finish outside the top two when the group stage concludes in October. Based on 10,000 simulations of the remaining games, here's how SPI sees the groups playing out, with a focus on how the top seeds are performing. (For more information on SPI, see Nate Silver's explainers here, here and here.)

Man City's Edin Dzeko moves to Roma on loan with view to a permanent deal

ESPN FC's Paul Mariner and Ross Dyer assess Edin Dzeko's move from Manchester City to AS Roma.

Edin Dzeko has finally completed his move to Roma as he has joined the Serie A club on a season-long loan from Manchester City.

Roma will be obliged to purchase the striker for €11 million next summer  -- "if certain conditions" are met, the clubs said -- as part of the terms of the €4m loan deal, bringing an end to his four-and-a-half year stay at City.

He had arrived in the Italian capital on Thursday, passed a medical the following day and has been pictured training with his new...

Miralem Pjanic wants Edin Dzeko to leave Manchester City for Roma move

ESPN FC's Paul Mariner addresses Manchester City's concerns in defence for next season, while Steve Nicol feels Manuel Pellegrini's side need to place emphasis on a consistent centre back.
The ESPN FC crew address Yaya Toure's future, where it appears the Ivorian will remain with Manchester City.

Roma midfielder Miralem Pjanic has made a plea to his club to bring Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko to the Italian capital next season.

Pjanic, 21, is already looking forward to his fifth year with the Giallorossi and hopes to see the squad strengthened after finishing second behind Juventus for the second season running.

The midfielder believes his Bosnia-Herzegovina teammate Dzeko would be just the kind of player Roma need to strengthen their attack, and Pjanic hopes that his dream of playing...

Emir Spahic backed by Sead Kolasinac after Bayer Leverkusen sacking

Some Bayer Leverkusen supporters had expressed support for Emir Spahic during Saturday's game against Mainz with a banner reading: 'Emir, one of us.'

Bosnia and Herzegovina full-back Sead Kolasinac has defended international teammate Emir Spahic after his Bayer Leverkusen contract was terminated following an attack on a club steward.

Late last week, video footage surfaced of Spahic, 34, attacking the steward after he refused to allow the defender's entourage access to the dressing-room area of the Bay-Arena after the DFB-Pokal defeat to Bayern Munich.

Leverkusen announced that they were conducting a review of the incident on Friday and then...
