Captain Hariss Harun says two home wins will take Singapore closer to their first Asian Cup in 25 years, but is refusing to get carried away, despite a positive start to their qualifying campaign.

The Lions snapped a seven-game losing streak against Bahrain to eke out a gutsy 0-0 draw in their third-round opener on Tuesday night.

"A big point for a small team" was coach V. Sundramoorthy's description of Singapore's courageous 0-0 draw in Riffa that ended a streak of seven straight defeats to former Asian Cup semifinalists Bahrain.

The Singapore squad returned home on Wednesday, satisfied in the knowledge that the positive result in the Middle East gets their Group E campaign off to a good start as they look to qualify for the 2019 AFC Asian Cup in United Arab Emirates.

Singapore got their 2019 AFC Asian Cup qualification third round campaign off to a positive start on Tuesday night by holding Bahrain to a 0-0 draw at the Bahrain National Stadium in Riffa.

Despite entering the game as underdogs, and having to deal with injuries over the course of the 90 minutes, the Lions held their own against the hosts to claim what could prove to be an important point in their quest to qualify for the Asian Cup.

Safuwan Bahrudin scored his seventh international goal against Bahrain in Thursday's friendly.

"Brave" is the word that Singapore midfielder Safuwan Baharudin used to describe the Lions' 3-1 defeat away to Bahrain in an international friendly on Thursday night.
