Cahill has now scored 45 goals in 88 international games since making his Australia debut in 2004.

Australia's record-scorer Tim Cahill grabbed a first half hat trick as the Asian champions eased to a 4-0 victory over Bangladesh in an AFC 2018 World Cup qualifier in Dhaka on Tuesday night.

Cahill took his Socceroos' tally to 45 goals in 88 international matches as he opened the scoring in the sixth minute with a simple header before adding to his account in the 32nd and 38th minutes.

Captain Mile Jedinak grabbed Australia's fourth goal two minutes before half-time before a more resilient defensive...

Philippines' World Cup hopes take another hit with Yemen loss

Thomas Dooley and his players tasted the disappointment of a third World Cup qualifying loss in four games.

The Philippines' hopes of progression to the next round of AFC 2018 World Cup qualifying all but ended Thursday night as they slumped to an embarrassing 1-0 home defeat to Yemen. An 83rd-minute goal from substitute Ahmed Al Sarori condemned the Philippines to their second straight loss.

The home side were punished for their inability to convert chances, and the in-form Ebrahim Ali Ayash performed well in the Yemen goal.

Azkals World Cup progression in serious jeopardy after Bahrain defeat

A 2-0 away loss to Bahrain dampened the mood in the Filipino camp.

Coming off an impressive goalless draw against North Korea in Pyongyang, the Azkals crashed to a disappointing 2-0 away loss against a Bahrain team looking to steer their own campaign back on track.

The Azkals had their chances, with Phil Younghusband and Stephan Schrock particularly active up front, but it would be Bahrain who would take the lead early in the second half.

Challenged for a response, a fatigued Azkals team had no reply as Bahrain avenged its earlier loss in Manila.

North Korea, Qatar win to stay in first place in World Cup qualifying groups

North Korea, Qatar, Thailand and Jordan all won on Tuesday to maintain their group leads in the second round of Asian qualifying for the World Cup.

Jong Il Gwan's 12th-minute penalty gave North Korea a 1-0 win over Yemen in Group H.

The North Koreans opened a four-point lead over Uzbekistan, who have a game in hand.

In the other Group H game, Ismail Abdul-Latif and Sayed Adnan both scored early in the second half to give Bahrain their second win in qualifying, 2-0 at home against the Philippines.

Jordan surprise Australia in World Cup qualifying as Japan, South Korea win

ESPN FC's Janusz Michallik questions whether Australia might have been a bit complacent heading into in their AFC World Cup qualifying loss against Jordan.

Jordan scored twice in the second half to upset continental champions Australia 2-0 on Thursday and move to the top of Group B in the second round of Asian qualifying for the World Cup.

The result, in front of a passionate home crowd in Amman, gave Jordan a one point lead over the Socceroos with four games remaining.

Jordan's pace troubled the Asian Cup winners for most of the game and the hosts took the lead two minutes into the second half when Hassan Abdel Fattah blasted a penalty high into...
