The Matildas will host China in a two-match series in November in an important warm up before next year's Asian Cup.

Captain Mile Jedinak has been recalled by head coach Ange Postecoglou for Australia's 2018 AFC World Cup playoff against Syria next month.

The Aston Villa midfielder missed the Socceroos' latest qualifiers against Japan and Thailand, as well as June's Confederations Cup, due to a groin injury.

But he made his comeback for the English second-tier side last week, and has been rewarded with a place in a 30-man preliminary squad announced on Tuesday.

Matildas' striker Sam Kerr 'honoured' to be shortlisted for top FIFA award

Perth Glory striker Sam Kerr
Sam Kerr, left, says she has to pinch herself, realising she's been nominated for a top FIFA award.

Matildas' striker Sam Kerr says it's a great honour to be shortlisted for the title of best women's soccer player in the world.

But it's a nomination that sits uneasily with a team player hell-bent on achieving success for her national side.

The Perth-raised striker is a huge part of Australia's climb through the ranks of world football under coach Alen Stajcic.

Kerr netted a first international hat trick against Japan at last month's Tournament of Nations, won by Australia.

The 24-year-old is four...

Matildas look to gain from overseas experience ahead of Brazil friendlies

Australia destroyed Brazil to win the inaugural Tournament of Nations.
The Matildas are able to draw on footballing experience from across the globe.

There are many factors at play turning the Matildas into a world soccer superpower, and foreign experience is right up there.

Ahead of two friendlies with Brazil this weekend, there's a decidedly international feel within the team camp.

For the first time in Matildas history, coach Alen Stajcic could field an entirely foreign-based side, with Matildas have flown into the side's Sydney-based camp from the USA, Norway, Germany and Japan.

"Everyone has shown a bit more interest in going overseas this...
