The hole that Cahill leaves in Australian football

Massimo Luongo a force for Australia in goalless draw vs. Honduras

Queens Park Rangers midfielder Massimo Luongo
Massimo Luongo was at the centre of everything Australia did against Honduras.

Australia will fancy their chances of booking a place at next year's World Cup finals after playing out a goalless draw in the first leg of their playoff clash in Honduras. Here's how the team stacked up in our player ratings.

GK Mathew Ryan, 7 -- Didn't have much to do but made a strong save late in the second half and always swept things up nicely at the back.

DF Matthew Jurman, 6 -- Solid performance that would have gone a long way to cementing his spot in the back three.

DF Trent Sainsbury, 7 -- The usual cool, calm and classy stuff from the country's best stopper. Saved a certain goal with a perfectly-timed early tackle.

DF Bailey Wright, 6 -- Made some strong interventions but was exposed for pace and in possession.

MF Josh Risdon, 6 -- Defensively sound, provided spark in attack too with a second-half cutback that should have been slammed home.

MF Mile Jedinak, 7 -- Like he never left -- heroic, unbeatable in the air, broke up plenty of Honduran attacks. But clearly ran out of petrol in the dying stages and occasionally coughed up the ball.

MF Massimo Luongo, 8 -- One of his best matches for the national team, showed a terrific work rate as the second midfield holder.

MF Aziz Behich, 7 -- Surely the argument is over. Australia's best wide left option and proved it going both ways.

FW Jackson Irvine, 6 -- Emptied his tank before coming off for Tom Rogic in the 74th minute. All-action.

FW Aaron Mooy, 7 -- A decent enough performance from the team's creative fulcrum but set-piece delivery was a touch sloppy.

FW Tomi Juric, 5 -- Blew the two best chances of the game when he could have made all the difference. Has to do better.

MF Tom Rogic, 6 -- Looked lively but struggled to adapt to the bobbly pitch.

DF Milos Degenek, NR -- Not enough time to make an impact.

FW Nikita Rukavytsya, NR -- Not enough time to make an impact.
